I'm a filmmaker that recently finished a mock commercial that I wrote and directed. I was hoping to use it as a portfolio piece to get some paid work. I was wondering if it was a good idea to send it off to some advertising agencies that make commercials in the Seattle area? Is it going to be ignored this way? Is there a better way to go about it?

Any help will be much appreciated!

I'd say copyright it first, and then go for it.

I would send it off, but I wouldn't do it out of the blue. Try to get the names of the specific people to send it to and hopefully get an introduction, or at the very least, introduce yourself first. You will have far better results if they have someone to connect the commercial with.
