It's been 4 months since Speed Racer V.2 came out... May 18th. And given Artisan's (now Lion's Gate I guess) VERY slow release timetable for these, I wouldn't expect an announcement until next year.
And the hardcore fans will probably once again cringe, as Artisan underwhelms us with more time-compressed episodes, crap-quality opening and closing credits with redone titles and frame-dragging/strobing artifacts, and absolutely no extras apart from a gimmicky box. Speed and his pals deserve WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY better than this.
Do you know for a fact that the first 2 releases so far have been time compressed? How so? I haven't noticed the voices sounding sped up. Could it be because they aren't using the original Trans-Lux opening that the episodes appear to be shorter in time? I too agree that I would've rather seen the original opening and close, but I bet they couldn't do it because Artisan is a totally different company with no affiliation with Trans-Lux. As for frame dragging/strobing artifacts, while the special edition release several years ago (through Speed Racer Enterprises) really looked horrible as far as artifacts were concerned, these releases have looked picture perfect to me.
Well, not only is the Trans-Lux logo gone, the SR logo itself has been replaced. This was a change made many years ago, first appearing on MTV airings, I believe.
If only they would put as much effort into the actual DVD content as they do their packaging. Hang the packaging, I want episodes that aren't time-compressed, have the original American credits (they were original on the old F.H.E./Artisan VHS tapes), and aren't all squeezed onto one disc.
