I've searched both sites and have not been able to find out if DirecTV has any plans on carrying ESPN-HD. Does anyone know if they have completely ruled it out? This would be a MAJOR mistake IMO.

Your best bet to get current info on this is to watch the HDTV Programming section at AVSForum.com. Many people there are anxiously waiting for definitive word on ESPN-HD.

DirecTV won't announce anything until the channel is actually up and running. This has always been their policy in the past. Nothing will be official before March 30th.

ESPN did their first HDTV test broadcast this week during the ESPN regional telecast of the Pitt-Seton Hall basketball. Based on a report from the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette's reporter it looked fantastic. He said in 16x9 you could read all of the Pittsburgh on the baseline, while the standard 4x3 all you see was the burgh.

This might be enough for me to buy another new TV and regret my purchase in September.
