If I remember correctly this film never even got a decent anamorphic transfer to DVD. Any word on it making it to Blu soon? It's one of my favorite popcorn films.

I recall this article wherein Michael Bay says some of the master materials for Armageddon were destroyed in a fire.

Michael Bay Relishes Blu-ray's Victories | homemediamagazine.com

--Should Armageddon make it to Blu-ray, there may be even more work in store. Original materials were destroyed.

"Believe it or not, we have to remaster Armageddon,” he said. “The Armageddon [master] was burned in a fire apparently, so we've got to re-master the whole movie.”--

I'm not sure what he means by "master" but it does sound like additional work needs to be done.

I also really enjoy Armageddon. A nice Blu-ray featuring both the theatrical version and the director's cut would be great, especially if it included some or all of the supplements from Criterion's DVD release of the film.

Great movie. Would love to see it on BD as my criterion DVD looks a little rough upscaled via HDMI nowadays!

Someone here rumoured it to be released on April 22nd in the Netherlands for Region B which usually means region free as most of BHV EU releases are usually region free & for some strange reason way before the Region A in many cases:

Hi-Def Release Lists - Blu-ray - International New and Upcoming

However, in addition to the HD master being lost in a fire so they had to do a new transfer (great news for us as compression technology is always improving!) Michael Bay also talked a while ago on his now defunct personal forum about some of the CGI work not being good enough for HD and needing re-rendering at a higher res. Whether this has happened or not who knows perhaps they have found a way to upscale those CGI shots as cannot see them being redone and that news not leaking out about it by now.
