Windows went crazy. Said something about a disk being unstable, fairly new, it has been fine for more than a month. Tried a restart. On restart windows did check disk and deleted a bunch of "orphan file segments" or something like that. Now most of the data is gone. Any way to get it back? Help?

Oh yuck! I think others may want to know your version of Windows.

Something like that happened to me and the fragments were turned into files that it put on the root directory of my C drive. I think they were all called filechk.xxx, with the x's in numerical order, but I had backups, fortunately.

You are on your own figuring out the right name and file extension to rename them and put them back where they are supposed to be.

Some of the smaller ones you can just open with notepad and copy down the info that you need, if it is that easy. Most often it isn't.

If nothing new is there, I'd just write them all off to experience.
