Any thoughts on X-Files: Fight the Future or I Want to Believe? (1 Viewer)

I'm surprised there hasn't been anything written about either of these films.

I got my two pack in the mail yesterday but I won't get around to them until the end of this weekend (if I'm lucky).

Kinda wanted to hear what the HTF folks had to say about these titles. The AVS forum wasn't too kind to Fight the Future, but I don't put much stock in that place.

I got I Want To Believe on BD this week; popped it in to check it out. Saw a few minutes of the film, which looked good in high def, and looked at many extras. The timeline feature is pretty cool and will likely be a favorite with fans, as it goes through all 9 years of the show and the first two movies. It even has clips from some episodes.

I thought the movie was underrated when I saw it in theaters (and to be fair, Dark Knight was a hard act to follow). Glad to have the BD.

I haven't seen Fight the Future yet but I Want to Believe looks quite good. As stated previously, the extras are cool though I haven't had a chance to look at much yet. I didn't care for the movie when I saw it in the theatre but it has grown on me.

Hoping to watch Fight the Future tonight.

Cool! Thanks for the heads up, guys! It's great to hear that I Want to Believe looks good. Like Sam, I enjoyed the film a lot and felt it got a bum rap. I'm happy to have it on BD.

I'm real curious to see how Fight the Future looks as Fox's catalogue titles are sometimes a mixed bag.

I'm of a somewhat different opinion - I thought I Want to Believe was disappointing. It wasn't a bad movie, but to me there was very little X-Files-ish about it - we could see similar stories on Fringe. I didn't think the script had a "feature film" scope to it - it felt like it was just an excuse the get the cast back together one more time.

While I haven't seen Fight the Future in a while, at least it felt bigger than a standard hour-long tv show. When I first watched it, I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Technically, I Want to Believe did look good on Blu-ray, although for some reason I ran into all kinds of stuttering issues watching the theatrical version - once I switched to the extended version it worked fine (I was using a PS3 as my player).

Isnt Fringe just like The X-Files but with a group rather than a duo ??

I enjoyed the film and liked the fact it was on a smaller scale. It seemed to give more focus to Mulder/Scully characters and the dynamic between them.

I rented (and already returned) the "I Want To Believe" Blu-ray, and while I didn't get a chance to look at the special features, I did think the movie itself looked pretty good. I liked it...it was one of those where initially I thought it was "just okay" but the more I thought about it after watching it, the more I liked about it. Without wanting to give away the film's central mystery for those who haven't seen it, I think some of the more disturbing imagery at the end kept me from enjoying the actual viewing of the film...so when I thought about it afterwards, I liked all of the ideas in it and how it was put together...but at the same time, there are some visuals in the film that I could probably do without seeing.

Before the movie came out, Chris Carter had said that while this one was meant to be a stand-alone, he wanted to eventually do a third film that was more mythology-oriented. Considering this flopped, I can't imagine anyone over at Fox is in a rush to green-light it, but I personally enjoyed this one enough that I wouldn't mind one last swan song.

Perused a bit of Fight the Future.

The movie appears grainy by nature. As such there doesn't appear to be any attempt to minimize the effect.

Noticeable edge halos in some scenes. Generally not a problem but it did jump out at me in a wide shot inside the bee dome.

Color and contrast are pretty dull or flat looking. Can't remember if this is how things looked in theaters...

And I'm too lazy to do a comparison with the DVD. :D

Nope....just displayed in a small window on the screen (surrounded by text, et al) in native 480p, much like how a BonusView PiP track looks. (I noticed that they are encoded in AVC though.) :D

I thought "I Want To Believe" had a very strange silvery kind of tone to it. I'd wager this is how the film is supposed to look (though I don't know). I liked it, personally.

"Fight the Future" looked OK, certainly not bad but not stellar. I liked this transfer less than I Want To Believe, but it might just be because the one film is older than the other.

I didn't see any obvious artifacts in either transfer. Glad to have X-Files in HD!

I rented it and liked it, not as good as the first but still a good, solid film. The BD was good but nothing great. This film was more of a modern day...

Frankenstein

...then it was an X-Files film.

I've run into a problem with The X-Files: The Complete Timeline. It loads, for example, the clips for the first three episodes, but when I get to "Ice", there is a picture superimposed over the screen for a second (of Mulder holding Virginia license plate that reads "EURKISO") and only audio. Exiting the feature and going back to the menu to try again brings the same results.

I also skipped to "Season 02" and the clip plays fine for "Little Green Men". But I run into the same problem (though a different picture loads) for "Duane Barry". And the replacement disc I received today from Netflix doesn't resolve this on my Panasonic DMP-BD50.

I was able to view all of the clips and the pictures, but only after I exit the timeline each time.

Also, under "Season 08" there is an "X" next to "Alone". Clicking on it only loads the background of this feature and a line scrolling down the screen. It does load the video for "Alone" (or any episode that has a clip) if I was previously viewing an episode with a picture.

I'm guessing whatever it is; it's related to the prior clip for this episode where Mulder and Scully had a disagreement over whether Scully really saw an alien spacecraft in Fight the Future.

Has anyone else run into a problem with this? I sure would love to know what clicking on the "X" does.
