Randy, I spoke with Stuart Gordon at the Dave's video signing of Re-Animator. He told me that MGM did indeed have the rights, and that it may come down to fans letting the studio know just how much we want the Lovecraft classic on DVD!
Jeffrey Combs was also there, and he alluded to a DVD featuring the commentary he recorded for The Frighteners... can you imagine that SE?

Dolls
Night of the Creeps
Don't Be Afraid of the Dark
Bad Ronald
Dark Night of the Scarecrow
Kiss Meets the Phantom
Encounters With The Unknown (three stories of fear, hosted by Rod Serling)
Invitation to Hell (Wes Craven's made-for-TV movie)
Burnt Offerings

Terror Train (Fox should sub-lease the rights to MGM)

Brainscan (a Columbia Tri-Star title I believe)

Prom Night 2: Hello Mary Lou
Prom Night 3: The Last Kiss
Prom Night IV

Amityville II: The Possession
Amityville 3-D (The Demon)

Phantasm II & III (if Buena Vista can contract titles to MGM, so can Universal! if Universal can contract titles to GoodTimes and Image, so can they contract titles to MGM!)

Poltergeist II & III (ditto - Warner can give MGM a slice of their library; many titles have been shared among those studios in the past; Logan's Run, Poltergeist I, 2010, Westworld...)

The Green Slime - would be great!
Inframan - though not technically horror, it would make a great double feature with The Green Slime

Love at First Bite needs to come out on DVD and I believe the rights are held by MGM (Orion).

"Horror Express..." Dont know who has the rights, but it is definitely a "Midnite" flick as we used to catch it on ch. 9 in NYC around then.

Warner owns THE GREEN SLIME (one of the ten billion pre-1986 MGM films they acquired) and DON'T BE AFRAID OF THE DARK (1973, a Lorimar film, another company whose library (including most Allied Artists films) library WB swallowed whole).

INFRA-MAN (as much as I'd like it on DVD, too) belongs to Shaw Bros. Shaw is starting to release its classics on DVD in Region 3, but they still have to work out an arrangement with a U.S. home video company for future releases in Region 1.

Some "Midnite Movies" I'd like to see hit DVD from the current MGM company:

* BURN WITCH BURN
* THE QUATERMASS X-PERIMENT
* THE HAUNTED PALACE
* THE RAVEN
* TOMB OF LIGEA
* THE TIME TRAVELERS
* PANIC IN YEAR ZERO (DVD supposedly in the works)
* THE LAST MAN ON EARTH (ditto)
* THE INCREDIBLE TWO-HEADED TRANSPLANT
* TWINS OF EVIL
* HANDS OF THE RIPPER
* THREE IN THE CELLAR (aka UP IN THE CELLAR)
* WILD IN THE STREETS
* THE MANSTER
* THE TWONKY
* GOG
* THUNDERBIRDS ARE GO!
* THUNDERBIRD SIX
* BLACK SABBATH (the english-dubbed AIP version, to compliment Image's italian-language alternate cut of the film)

Dave,

There are a number of public-domain copies of "Horror Express" floating around and one good release from Image. Should be easy to find.

Thanks, Mark
I actually had looked before but had never seen it. I just checked Amazon and lo and behold...
Thanx! Too bad it's not anamorphic though...

I highly recommend the Image disc, Dave. Though not anamorphic, it looks terrific- certainly the best this film has ever looked on home video.

Avoid any other label's release of this one at all costs.
