Try Casablanca for great B&W spectacular viewing.
Try Mutiny on the Bounty or The Searchers to see Techicolor restored in all of it's 50's and 60's glory.
Try King Kong or World Trade Center for a supurb mordern HD presentation (and not a half bad movie)
Try Tim Burton's Corpse Bride or Happy Feet (in DolbyTrueHD) for glorious HD Animation
Try Discovery Atlas: Australia Revealed or for that matter, any of the Discovery Atlas series for great HD Documentaries
Try Nine Inch Nails Live: Beside You In Time which I understand is a near perfect Concert Film (I have not seen this yet)

(BTW, the same titles hold true for either format)

I am sure others will have favorites that differ from mine, but there is a start.

Action: :)

Serenity (looks and sounds terrific)
MI-3...ditto plus a very cool PIP feature.
Last Samurai
Bourne Supremacy (might just be the most underrated HD DVD out there...STELLAR)
Terminator 3....Hey It's Ahnuld :D
Fast & The Furious....kind of silly but looks and sounds great.

Happy Feet & Harry Potter (UK import) are two great overall discs. Both have tremendous video and audio.

I wouldn't hesitate to recommend The Adventures of Robin Hood. An awesome film, and an excellent example of the wonders HD DVD can do for older films.

I do not know how I missed Robin Hood from my list above, but I would absolutly agree with you. I would rate this as the best HD released last year, bar none.

To make a new film like Batman Returns or Casino Royale look good is a no brainer, but to take a 70 year old feature and make it look like it just came from it's first run release is a feat to behold.

This is a must buy for any HD owner.

I'll third this. The movie looks incredible and it's a great story.

Other favorites of HD DVD action:

Bullitt and Grand Prix for the car fan
Unforgiven and the Searchers for westerns
Enter the Dragon also looks far better than you'd ever expect.

I too forgot about Robin Hood. A true treasure and looks fabulous.

Forgot about Goblet of Fire too. The opening world cup thingy is a true sonic force to be reckoned with in Dolby True HD. :)
