    Camp,

You know, I was just thinking the same thing this weekend. Would be a nice use of the tax return.

    Pinged--

    Here's the story--

There will be no P-958. We decided that it simply didn't make sense to update a chassis from 1998 (our AVP-9080) for introduction in 2003.

However, we will have full working samples of the P-965 (and the companion A-965 7 channel main amp) at the CEDIA show in September.

The P-965 is a significant upgrade over anything I imagined for the P-958 yet will retain the $1500 SRP.

If anyone is interested in more details, please drop me a line at: [email protected] and I'll forward a PDF doc.

    Jeff,

Thanks for the update. Will you guys be doing any updating of your Newcastle receiver line?

    Jeff,

Thanks for the timely info (and for your participation in the forum).

So, if "working samples" will be present in September can we expect a US release in the 4th quarter?

Yes, we expect to ship both the P-965 Pre/pro and the A-965 7 x 160 main amp in the fourth quarter of 2003.

    ChristopherW:

There will be four addtions to the Newcastle receiver line-up this year. We'll be shipping the industry's first 6.1
"TrueDigital" receiver in May. Rated at 100 W x 6, the only DAC in this receiver (R-903) is in the subwoofer output. The PCM outputs from the DSP processor are converted to PWM and amplifed via Class D. The actual D to A conversion takes place in the output stage. We're also adding a flagship do-everthing receiver, a budget 6.1 receiver and our first stereo receiver.

The flagship will be available in the 4th quarter. The other two should squeeze into the 3rd quarter.

I just got the .pdf from Jeff (BTW, thanks Jeff!) and I like the fact that both the new pre/pro (the P-965) and the new flagship receiver (the R-965) are software upgradeable (via RS-232 and USB), a "universal video" feature which converts composite & S-video to component (like the Pioneer Elite 49tx), and really good looks from the CGI rendering. They both look like a cross between Marantz receivers and Sherwood's previous Newcastle line.

The info on the bass management is rather vague...it just says, "Bass crossover frequency selectable at 40 hz to 120 hz in 20 hz increments". Not much to go by.

Camp- I just got the pdf too. I asked about the crossovers, DSP modes to "expand" 5.1 DD/DTS to a 7.1 speaker system, and then if so, non-mono rears or not...

Very nice looking unit! (Outlaw could learn something... [IMG] )

    Global crossovers.

He's checking on non-mono rears for 5.1->7.1 DPS modes (if they exist).

I'm afraid to ask about analog BM on the 5.1 analog input.

He said uses a new Fujitsu DSP processor. Be curious as to where else that eventually ends up.

    Kevin:

No need to be afraid to ask about the analog bass management issue. We learned that lesson. The analog input will have the same bass management capability as the digital inputs--simultaneousely adjustable high pass and low pass filters user selectable from 40 Hz to 120 Hz in 20 Hz increments.

    Very cool.
Might the fact that the software is upgradeable allow us to see more flexible bass management (among other things) down the road?

    Kevin:

I can assure you that we will NOT digitize the analog input for bass management. IMO, such a strategy would be a contradiction in terms and completely contrary to our philosophy for Newcastle.

Also, curious why Fujitsu DSP uP's vs Analog Devices, Mot, TI, etc.

Please confirm 5 analog filter choices on the analog inputs. Is this an active filter?

    Both are good questions.

    Unfortunatley, I can't answer either.

I will post more about this when I have better details.

    Jeff,
I saw a little info up on the web site, do you know when the new pre/pro will hit the streets? My 9080 needs to be up graded, and a few extra channels im my amp would be a great thing.
    Thanks Lance
