I went to Cedar Point in Ohio last weekend and finally rode the Milennium Force coaster. Then I rode it again. And again.
I've always loved roller coasters, but I've never had an experience like this one before. You climb to a height of 310 feet, then drop down that first hill (mountain?) at an 80 degree angle going 93 mph. That's right - 80 degrees.
    Here's a photo.
    Wheeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm a coaster nut, but I haven't spent my summers theme park hopping since my college days. It's amazing how little free time you have once you get out into the "real world." [IMG]

I never rode a coaster and always chickened out when at amusement parks until I was 19. Then, one day, while at Six Flags Great Adventure in New Jersey, I decided to throw caution to the wind and got on line for the Great American Scream Machine and I've been a coaster lover ever since. Not as big a drop, but it does have 7 loops. [IMG]
Unfortunately, I don't get to amusement parks very often, so I can't indulge as much as I'd like.

Malcolm, the first Arrow coaster that the GASM was based on was the Shockwave at Six Flags Great America. I loved it because (the first year at least) it was a pretty rough ride, beating you up almost as much as a good wooden coaster. But Six Flags added some additional braking the second year that toned down the ride experience significantly. Alas, after 15 years in operation, the coaster is currently being dismantled [IMG], in order to clear the way for a new coaster next season.

i've ridden the millenium force three times, twice during my junior year of high school (physics class), and once during my senior year (physics once again...different class [IMG])...that drop is amazing, but it kinda lost the effect the second time around my junior year. my favorite coaster at cedar point (and anywhere else to date) is the raptor...the best time to ride it is at night, because there are light bulbs attached to the track (http://www.cedarpoint.com/public/ins...ill/raptor.cfm: "single ski lift-style seating with shoulder harnesses and lap belts")...i felt like i was in space.

After being forced on to the Rebel Yell at Kings Dominion when I was 5 years old, it took over a decade for me to try again. Glad I did! Some of my favorites are Medusa at six flags (this thing is a snake), Nitro at Six Flags , and if you really want your eyeballs to stick to the back of your skull : Hypersonic XLC at Kings Dominion . 0-80 in 1.8 seconds!!!!!!

    Cedar Point Rocks!
The crappy rides in California (Dismal Land???) dont come close.
I took my wife to Cedar Point a few years back and she completely freaked out on millenium.
    Nothing else comes close!!!!!

Rollercoasters rule!!! This is the only thing I can think of where there are no such things as people who hate rollercoasters.

I love Cedar Point. The Raptor rules. I haven't been recently, so I'm looking foward to Millenium Force.

If I may recommend, all you northern Ohio folks should travel south a little to King's Island. The Beast at night rules!!!.

the best coasters ive been on so far are just the ones at six flags new england. i liked superman and batman. i had no idea how long and steep the drop for superman was. the ride that i HATED was the flashback. i usually have a very strong stomach when it comes to rides, but this sucked. i think what pushed me over the edge was the reverse stuff. and 'scream' was a lot of fun

My wife and I have been to many parks (and a casino) to ride rollercoasters. The highlights are most at Cedar Point, the 2 woodies at Kings island, a couple newer ones at HersheyPark PA., The Desperato in Buffolo Bills Casino on the Nevada/California line near Las Vegas. If you are ever in Las Vegas, take the side trip to this casino. There is absolutely no wait to get on and it was a record breaker in the early '90's. The Millenium Force is the only one that beats it. Of course we have been to other parks with great coasters - Kings Dominian, Busch Gardens, a couple different six flag parks...

But, after all that, I am getting weary of the whole Amusement Park scene. Sick of the heat and the lines.

my friend says they call them amusement parks because you have to find ways to amuse yourself while you're waiting in (90 minute, 3 hour, however long it is) lines.

Longest I've waited was 3.25 hours for Volcano when it opened up at King's Dominion. There was a mechanical problem halfway through the line so we decided to wait. It's one of my favorite coasters but I've concluded that no ride is worth 3 hours sweating in line. [IMG] If it breaks, on to the next ride.
I have yet to ride that super-quick Hypersonic XLC because the line is always immense when I'm there. You'd think that @ 0-80 in 1.8 people would be in and out of there super-quick as well. :p)

My whole family loves coasters. My first ride was in Wildwood, NJ when I was 4 on the Screem Machine (unfortunately it was destroyed in 1985!) I believe my sisters first ride was the same coaster when she was 3. Every vacation that I can remember has included at least 1 amusement park and usually 3 or 4. The family joined ACE (American Coaster Enthusiasts) about 6 years ago.

Millenimum Force is a great ride, but Magnum across the park is still my favorite steel coaster. We went to Cedar Points Coastermania in June and rode the coasters from 7AM to 1AM.

My favorite coaster overall is the wooden Phoenix at Knoebels Grove Amusement Park in PA (which is also my favorite park). They also have the best coaster "event" which is the Phoenix Phall Phun Phest which was 2 weekend ago.

This is a depressing time of the year as all the parks start to close in my area, but luckily I'm goinng to make it out to Orlando for a December vacation this year!

Myself and 3 friends visted Six Flags over Texas this year and took a shot at their coasters there.
The kicker is the Q-Bot. You pay $20 for the first person and $10 a person after that(we had 4 so $50) and basically never waited in line. It q's up a time for you to ride the ride and you can go off doing whatever until you get buzzed to ride the ride. WELL WORTH THE $$.
    Stats on the Titan:
    Drop: 255'
    Speed: 85 mph
    http://www.rcdb.com/full/six-flags-o...xas/titan8.jpg
We also took a crack at the others in which the "Mr Freeze" was quite nice.
    0-70 3.78 seconds.

    Overall, a killer experience.

Heh, I was at Six Flags just at the weekend there. Great fun doing coasters in the rain!

As much as I love the Titan, I think the Batman ride is my favourite there.

I'm a big proponent of sitting in the back. Longer ride, and you get jerked around a lot more. When you sit in the front, the train is already halfway down the hill before the fun even starts.
What's your favorite place on the coaster and why? [IMG]
Speed in Las Vegas isn't so bad itself.
Personally I hate roller coasters where you have to stand. It never fails that my shins and calf muscles just spasm. I'm in the coaster in pain. I refuse to ride standing roller coasters anymore. They hurt me. [IMG] Does anybody else have this feeling too?
