i have a denon 3805 and it's fabulous. however, i only wish that it had custom input naming. i have buttons for xbox, jubebox, sacd, and so forth on my remote, but when i press xbox, the receiver naturally says "vdp" (which is where the xbox is connected). while i feel it's a shame to ditch the denon for missing such a minor feature, i would be willing to do it if i could fine a comparable receiver with custom input naming. anybody have any ideas? thanks.

My cheap $300 Sony does that, so there are receivers that do it. I have re-named the AUX input to computer and the TV/SAT input to TV/PS2. I am not sure of a receiver that is comparable to the 3805 that does it but I would not recommend ditching such a nice receiver for such a small feature that really does not matter.

I think most of the Onkyos do it also. I feel your pain. I just upgraded to a Denon 3805 from an Onkyo 777. The Onkyo had a lot of neat features like that. I like the Denon but I almost wish I had went with a new Onkyo 901. Really I wish I could afford a B&K 507. :D

My H/K AVR630 does that. My only trouble is having to remember which button on the remote selects the input. :)

Minor issue at best...

If you buy a learning universal remote, just learn and rename the buttons on the LCD screen. That way you can easily adjust inputs by what you've actually got, instead of remembering VCR=Xbox, Tape=This, TV=Wotsit etc.

That's if you don't use the front buttons (which you don't if you have macros for each activity page anyway)

Cheaper than buying a new AV amp just for this feature. My av pre-amp does allow custom naming, but it wouldn't bother me if I didn't (as I have used renamed ability on the remote-changed VDISC input nameto LAPTOP on the LCD remote instead)

The Pioneer Elite VSX-54TX and higher have the function rename feature.

i'm pretty sure the ref 50 is a preamp. i'm talking about receivers only. i have a home theater master mx-500 but it doesn't really allow me to change the names on the main screen. i know it's a pissy little quirk. i'll just have to wait it out and see if i get over it.

The B&K AVR507 is a 7.1 Receiver
