When I was a kid, I watched Wrestling on WTBS. I was a huge Ric Flair fan and My Dad and I went to the Township auditorium in Columbia, SC every month to see a show. I got an autograph from a few wrestlers including the late Chief Wahoo McDaniel. Also met one of the referees in person Tommy Young. I dont watch Wrestling now since WWE bought up everything (Jim Crockett promotions/WCW, the AWA started by Verne Gagne, World Class Championship Wrestling owned by the Von Erich Family) etc etc .. There are several DVD Documentaries out about various wrestlers and Territories. Books as well

I used to watch it in the mid-late 80's (WWF Prime Time Wrestling, and WCW on WTBS 6:05 Saturday nights). It was so much fun back then. I have a friend that is sort of into it now, around 8 years ago he tried getting me into it again. John Cena was all the rage, and I remember him cutting a scripted promo in the ring for what seemed like 10 minutes. It was horrible. Not Cena, but the fact that this is what wrestling has become.

Wrestlers going on a script, where they used to just say stuff off the cuff, and it was hilarious, Dusty Rhodes, Ric Flair, Hulk Hogan, and MAcho MAn Randy Savage. They were so unique, and weird, because they brought their persona into the character. That to me was the main reason wrestling was fun.

I grew up watching wrestling in the NYC Metro area when they used to replay matches from MSG back when Vince McMahon's dad ran the show. When I was in college in Tennessee, I remembered a young wrestler named Randy Savage when he used to wrestle against another young wrestler named Leaping Lanny Poffo. Little did I know that Randy Savage's real name was Poffo so he was wrestling his younger brother with their father Angelo in the corner. I used to watch TBS back in the early 1980s with the Four Horsemen.

Theres a DVD that WWE put out Called Ric Flair & the Four Horsemen. WWE used to release DVDs through Warner but I dont think they do that anymore

God, it was great when Hulk and Mr. T took on Roddy Pipper and Randy Savage back on that wrestling show on NBC circa 1986/1987.

I loved the Four Horseman that was a great run. WCW "Starcade" was awesome, but WWF won me over eventually mainly because of the talent they had Rowdy Roddy Piper, Ricky the Dragon Steamboat and of course my favorite the Macho Man Randy Savage with Elizabeth who is still one of the most beautiful ladies I have ever seen. So tragic about her (And Randy Savage) passing years ago.

That stuff used to crack me up. The good old days. Hell, it's funny how all those dudes used to be on TBS back in the day and before Vince bought all of them.

That was one of my favorite feuds. Roddy Piper was such a bad guy. He played the heel to perfection I couldn't wait until Mr. T and Hogan beat him and Bob Orton.

Holy cow that was funny. Cyndi Lauper was so fun to watch in WWF. I miss those days of wrestling.
Wrestling managers were insane...so freaking funny. Captain Lou ALbano, Mouth of the South Jimmy Hart and my all time favorite Bobby the Brain Heenan.

I remembered watching The Rock's dad, Rocky Johnson wrestle Jerry Lawler and Randy Savage back in the late 1970s and early 1980s. He used wrestle on TBS too when Rick Flair would beat the crap out of him. Rocky Johnson was the generally the Washington Generals to the big boys like the Four Horsemen. Well, at least his son Dwayne made the big-time and is a superstar beyond pro wrestling.

It was great in those days. The 80s was a fun time to be a kid .. Somewhere in Storage I have the first 4 Wrestlemania's on VHS .. I remember Vince McMahon having wrestle mania at the Casino Hotel in Atlantic city Wrestlemania 4 and 5 were held there in back to back years .. I think he said thats the only time they went to the same place 2 years in a row. I have collected over time a number of the documentaries on DVD that have come out also. as for today's product, its not really my thing now but the DVDs that have come out have a lot of old matches and they are fun to watch

I grew up watching Stampede Wrestling in the 80's. The Harts, Karachi Vice, Honkey Tonk Wayne (to be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame this week!) Bad News Allen, Pre-Steroid British bulldogs Davy Boy Smith and the incredible Dynamite Kid. I saw Chris Benoit's ring debut at an Edmonton house show (Klondike Wrestling for Edmonton's Klondike Days, as opposed to Stampede Wrestling to line with the Calgary Stampede) and remember when Owen Hart made his TV debut.

I kind of hate myself for actually getting back into and watching WWE this past year, but the talent is INSANE compared to the 80's and 90's. Richocette is so good he carried Lucha Underground for two seasons as their head babyface Prince Puma, and never said a word. That said, WWE is such a time investment I watch it like kids watch porn: as 1.5X speed and normal play for the "good stuff". :P

If you're looking to relive the glory days of the WWE, I highly recommend reading Brandon Stroud on Uproxx. On top of doing pretty good recaps of the current shows, he also is doing the Monday Night War recaps of WWE and WCW, and my favourite, a new coloumn of jobber recaps from WWF SUPERSTARS, which I remember watching but now seem completely bananas and hard to believe this was thought of as "good".

Wrestling, even when terrible it manages to be fun...

I just saw this on YouTube. Either Billy Corgan has gone crazy, and just throwing money down the drain, or he is a genius. The 80's style NWA is back.

Premiere episode:

Edit: The numbers on YouTube sadly don't seem to justify this promotion so far.
I appreciate that Corgan is trying to bring "old school" studio wrestling back, but think this should have had a little publicity leading up to the launch.
