I was happy to see that Planet of the Vampires was released by MGM, being one of my favorite Mario Bava films, but I can't seem to find any reviews to tell me if it has a decent transfer. Anyone know how this looks/sounds?

MGM Technical Services pulled out all the stops on this one.

And all for a $14.99 budget 'Midnite Movie'

There is an in-depth article on this film and its inadvertant restoration

    in last months VIDEO WATCHDOG.

Needless to say what MGM thought was going to be a routine 2 week film to tape transfer job turned out to be anything but.

Not only did they end up sending to Italy for deleted footage, but ended up using the original music score, ditching that swingin' Les Baxter music that AIP had so thoughtfully provided.

2.9 cheers for MGM. if theyd only made it 16:9...still, above average dedication for a cheap cult 'B' Picture...

The transfer is clean, with well-rendered colors, @ 1.85 WS...

16x9 in France but sadly no English language or subtitle track.
    See here for more detail.
