It's the same drive as the DRU500AX, it's the OEM model. Less software. Bare drive, so no media, and it doesn't accept the 500AX's firmware releases.. but it's current to the most recent firmware, and it's damn solid. If you want a 500AX on the cheap, this is it.

It also doesn't have the silver facia of the 500AX and looks much better because of it.

What are the advantages of the 500ax over the dwU10a? At around $200 the dwu10a looks pretty good.

Ok, a bare drive means you get the drive with no box and nice retail packaging. It also means that the Sony ships with 1 piece of DVD-RW media and one piece of DVD-R media (I think, it may be + can't remember) whereas the 10 doesn't ship with either, it comes with no media, you have to buy your own (go to http://www.allmediaoutlet.com/)

The other difference is warranty; OEM drives are warrantied by who sells them, the retail box is retailed through Sony (though to be honest, you'll probably have similar luck with both)

A couple of retailers selling it mentioned that it had no cables.

What would I need to hook it up?
