I thought I had read that "The Nuns Story" and "Shoes of the Fisherman" were coming out on DVD in November. There seems to be nary a word about it since. Have they been cancelled????

    Ken,
Except for that news story which I believe came out of USA Today, no site has officially listed either titles for preorder.

It was suppose to part of a "Chirstmas boxset but those 2 titles are not in the boxset. I sure hope they have not been cancelled.

It's too late for hope because neither title is showing up anywhere for release this year.

Ken, check the original thread and you'll see they were never part of the box, just intended to come out at the same time. [IMG]

Maybe, like The Last Days of Pompeii, Warners are leaving it to the eleventh hour to get 'em out there; like you I'm just hoping they haven't been cancelled.

We're still waiting on Zinneman's Julia from Fox which was readied for release and copies are, in fact owned by HTF members who picked up a few renegade sets! So don't talk to me about The Nun's Story... yet!

I'd love to see The Nun's Story on DVD along with many other Zinneman films, but Julia is ready to go and. Come on, Fox! [IMG]

Does anyone know if the great Audrey Hepburn/Fred Zinnemann film "The Nun's Story" is still on track for November 8th release from Warner? It's only 3 weeks away, but the DVD still isn't available for pre-order anywhere. Thanks.

My guess is that they'll be part of an Easter promotion.

Looked both of these up at Amazon.com yesterday and Amazon has them scheduled for release on December 31, 2005.

Which is VERY cool since I do want them in my collection but then I realized that 12/31 is a Saturday and most releases are on Tuesday. [IMG]

So, I'm not counting on them being available but hopeful that I'll wander through a store just after the New Year and there they'll be.

There as been some wonder here as why the possible Christmas release of Nuns Story and Shoes of the Fisherman have not happened.
The Nuns story has music by Franz Waxman. Over at www.franzwaxman.com, they mention that the Nuns story dvd is due spring 2006. It looks possible that both films could be part of a Easter release.

Thanks for the update, Joe. We waited this long - I guess we can wait a few more months.

I'm mildly surprised that "Shoes of the Fisherman" was not released already to take advantage of the new Pope being voted in. I'll just keep hanging on to my LDs of theses two films for a while longer.

This quote is from The DVD Forums. Any comments about the apparently BAD transfer. I have yet to see the DVD, my purchased copy has yet to arrive. I have a laserdisc of "The Nun's Story", and I believe I may hold on to it if there is the slightest chance of this report being true.

DVD Beaver has a series of screencaps here which may help; the poster (and some HTF members may recognise the style; though you appear to have copied and pasted his post twice Jeff) has, ah, rather idiosyncratic views, particularly on Warners product. I, for one, am happy to buy (it's winging its way to me as I type) and I'll make my own mind up when I see it.

    John,
Stop being a Warner apologist.[IMG] Also, I didn't see anything wrong with "The Wild Bunch" dvd so I must be a Warner apologist too.[IMG]

To present the other side of the story, here is Gary Tooze's assessment of the "Films of Faith" box:

The ANS screen caps at the Beaver look fine to me (especially for a 45-year old film). At $20 for the 3-disc set from Amazon, this one's a no-brainer.

Guess I'm a Warner apologist as well. Let me go flog myself with a wet noodle. Bad Warner apologist, bad!!!

Well I'll see for myself in a day or two. I'll still have the LDs if there are any problems.
