I thought once this set was released there would be many reviews....is everyone buying the 34 instead? I know the 40 is 4x3 but the 16x9 picture is bigger than the 34 so i figured everyone would opt for it. your thought please :)

Gregory: The current 40-inch XBR (KV-40XBR800) is the second-generation version of this highly praised model. Just do a search for threads about 40-inch Sony direct-view; it's discussed frequently here.

Thanks Jack, I think I was expecting further discussion because the xbr 700 had the problem of making analog broadcast look really bad do to the drc circuit...I think this effected the previous 34 inch model too but maybe not as noticible because of the smaller screen size. so anyway I am considering the 40 inch as a xmas purchase but this concerns me because I cant see an analog signal in a store. Scott
btw I have a model 6000 reciever ....still using my trusty 1994 rca cinemascreen :)

Other than the larger screen size, is the 40XBR800 exactly the same as the 36XBR800? I was going to try to save up for the 36"...but I figure if I can actually manage to save up the $2300 for the 36", it shouldn't be too much harder to save up the extra $700 for the 40"! :)

I think the 36 is the same as the 40 except if analog reception is an issue? it would be more pronounced on the larger screen

I've had the 40XBR700 for almost a year and my analog cable looks superb (as long as the broadcast source is better than espn2 quality). However, I've seen the 40XBR700 on a digital cable source and it doesn't look nearly as good as mine. I think that's the cable provider's fault rather than Sony's.

I think a lot of people are jumping on the 34 due to the 16x9 aspect and it's about $700-1000 cheaper.
