Norm, I haven't heard anything about Sony releasing its own DVD recorder.

Sony is coming out with a home recorder next year that does DVD+rw and DVD-rw, a dual machine. Right now in Japan there is a DVD-rw recorder.

Cool, any word on pricing?

No, that's just what I heard from a local electronics person who I trust (regarding the +rw, -rw dual machine). The Sony -rw machine is 89,000 yen.

Sony already has a PC based DVD burner that does both DVD+RW and DVD-RW. I have definately heard the whispers that Sony will market a DVD-R/DVD-RW/DVD+R/DVD+RW standalone recorder, first in Japan and then here. GREAT IDEA, since all of these will play on regular DVD players.

The PC version of the DVD+RW+R+CDR is definatly out, i had my hands on it today at a local office depot.
