OK, after seeing the amazing Ms. Case again last Sunday, I feel I must evangelize her to the masses. If you're at all a fan of alt.country/insurgent/y'allternative music, then you gotta check out her "Furnace Room Lullaby" and "The Virginian" releases. I normally don't listen to country music (more indie/alt) but she truly rocks and is a hot number to boot

. As it says in her Bloodshot Records bio, she "possesses a voice that'd make a nun give up God, a bear give up honey, and, hopefully, make Shania give up singing".
Check her out at:

I have discovered her talents through The New Pornographers, a quirky band made up of people from many other groups. I've grown to love them in the past few months, I was lucky enough to see them here recently and it was one of the most fun and entertaining show I've ever been to. The band was cracking jokes, making fun of each other and passing around the bottle all night.
Neko has a great, somewhat unusual, voice and while she doesn't get to sing on every track on the New Pornographers disc (a number of them take turns), it's enough and what really turned me on to the group orginally.
Haven't heard any of her other stuff. I'm not a country fan at all, but I may check it out.

Tom,
I too am a tremendous fan of hers. A friend in California turned me on to her and I have't stopped listening since. My girlfriend (who is also a fan of her's) and I are going to see her on the 24th at the Bluebird in Denver. Should be a great show!

The Show in Nanaimo is going to be Neko Case and her Boyfriends which I'm sure is the case with the rest of the tour. You should also check out another project of hers called The Corn Sisters with the equally talented Carolyn Mark. Good stuff I tell you.
Anyone here ever hear her old band Maow? They beat my band in a battle of the bands called Shindig. It was great, they were three girls dressed up in Fuzzy Bikini cat outfits and played pop/punk. Fun stuff.

From today's "Nashville Tennessean":
Hey girl, put your shirt back on!!!
Even if you're not into country music, the shows at Opry Plaza, outside the Opry House, sure are interesting.
Case in point: Alt-country hottie Neko Case, headliner for last Saturday's show, took her shirt off after playing for about 45 minutes. She was wearing a bra, but the crowd was a bit stunned nonetheless.
Neko whipped off her shirt after a dispute with Opry staffers. Seems Neko was contracted to play 90 minutes, but after only 45, she announced she would play her last song. A show producer told her she had 45 more minutes to do, and now you know what her reaction was.
Grand Ole Opry General Manager Pete Fisher labeled it ''a horrible act.''
Ooooo, Pete, you drama king, you!
After the shirt removal, Opry staffers turned off the lights and shut down the sound.
Later, a calmer Neko apologized to the show producer.

I'll have to ask her for an "encore" when she plays here.

Re: The Opry show ..
I was actually was wondering what happened cuz during her show last Sunday she joke about how they got a "D-" (or was that "DD" ?
wink.gif
) at their first Opry show and how they probably wouldn't be invited back. I think it would be hard for her to fill 90 mins as it would mean she'd have to play just about every song from her 2 LPs and her latest EP. She played for about 50 mins the following day.

I've got Fox on pre-order, and I've heard a couple of cuts on the radio. Great stuff!

I haven't decided whether I like Fox Confessor Brings the Flood as much as Blacklisted, which is one of my favorite albums, but it's good. "Star Witness" is my favorite track, at this point.
It has a cool cover, at the very least. And you can listen to it here.

I heard her on Austin City Limits two or three years ago and thought she was very good. I still don't own any of her music but plan on getting something soon.

I've been enjoying both Fox Confessor and Tigers. I just love that voice of hers. I'm hoping she makes her way through Edmonton again so I can finally see her.
