My neighbours got an old P133 system from some relatives. The system was working decently but it needed to be reformatted. After the reformat(with a fresh install of Win '98) everything is working, and very well for a 133 I must say, except for the modem.

I would assume the modem is a 28.8/33.6 kbps modem(just a guesstimate based on the rest of the system specs). However, windows will not auto detect the modem and they have no driver disks or manuals indicating the make/model. Even the previous owners don't have this info. The modem will not work if I try to install it as a generic modem.

In a desperate move, I tried to get some info by opening up the case and looking on the card. I did find this on the card:

    "MTek 9642 EX24P 8039"

I couldn't find any modems with these characters in their name in the win' 98 modem list. I can't even find any info on the model from google.

What else can I do? I am really out of ideas here.

    Thanks in advance,
    Justin Ward

I already took a look at driverguide.com but couldn't find anything. They are probably jusy going to get a new 56k modem.

try www.modemhelp.net. A good friend of mine runs it, when he's not doing tech support for a large ISP.
