My wife has decided I can get a console and my first choice is X-Box, however I have a 2 year old who loves playing on the computer and has an older friend with an N64 and he loves watching and playing mario and kart games.

Does X-box have any family type games in the works, or should I just go with the GameCube and live without some of the games I'd like to play. Let's be honest, HALO will freak my little boy out. I'd just like a couple of games he could play with me and then pull my games out during naptime or at night. However, if there is nothing kiddie friendly on the horizon, maybe I should just go with the big "N".

any help would be appreciated.

MS is firmly planted in the 14-30 age bracket. You won't be seeing any little kid games for a very long time
Get a cube, or better yet, get an old N64 for your son, and an XBox for yourself ;)

It depends on what you mean by kids. Spyro the Dragon is coming. There are 2 Loony Toon games, Antz Racing, along with several new platformers announced at E-3. Kids can handle tons of repitition. One game will work fine for them. Any how, you are talking about a 2 year old. Long before you child can even fully understand any game real well, XBOX2, Gamecube2, and PS3 will be close to coming out. Get the system you want know, there will be a handful of games to appease the kid and wife. By the way, I would recommend and S-Controller. I just bought an S-Controller for my 6 year old, I don't know how a 2 year old would hold it though.

Again, buy the system you want. Let the kid(s) be an influence when they are old enough to understand. If you really want the best of both worlds, get a PS2. Although I will stick with my Xbox. I showed my daughter movies of Tork, Blinx, and Psyconaughts and she thought they looked cool. She can wait, your kid can.

Toe Jam & Earl 3 might fit the bill. It's two player cooperative, so you can assist during the game. It's the reason I'll be buying the X-Box this fall.

Forgot about those above, you can also look at these as a possible interest to kids:

Superman,
The 2 Batman's,
Crazy Taxi 3 (My daughter loved Crazi Taxi when she was 4),
Rayman 3,
Malice,
Kung Fu Chaos,
Sneakers,
Vexx,
Freaky Flyers,
Stung,
Mad Dash,
Nickelodeon Party Blast,
Sam and Max,
Shrek, (which you can probably get in a bargin bin now, but kids don't care),
Simpsons Road Rage,
Tony Hawk,
Most fighting games keep kid interested and there are pleanty of those on Xbox.

Again, buy the system you want, young kids like what dad likes, my 6 year old loves UT on the computer. The bad part is when she tells your wife her favorite weapon is the Sniper Rifle. :)
