Any insight on the new Onkyo receivers coming--525, 626, and 727? (1 Viewer)

I see that in April, Onkyo will be releasing the TX-NR525 and the TX-NR626, followed some time later (May?) by the TX-NR727. I have seen the specs on their site, but does anyone have any other information about them? Can we look forward to some downward price pressure on the 616 and 717?

Given a similar price, would the 717 still be better than the new 626? Just wondering. Thanks!

Bruce,

Great question! Onkyo typically does allow the older models to clear out with retailers accepting less profit. I haven't typically seen price erosion on the year prior's models for about 4-5 months.
That said - they are good offerings and we will be endeavoring to review them here on HTF soon. The 717 does seem to have a better amplifier (slightly) - but it's hard to compare until someone measures real world performance with the right equipment.I'd keep an eye on Accessories4Less as refurb 717's are likely to get much more popular in the next 90 days.

I saw the new offerings and, on paper, I'm less than impressed.

Last year Onkyo created the NR414...and the model range, supposedly, went...

309->313
509->414(new model nomenclature)
609->515
___->616
709->717

Upper models stayed...

With the features the 727 loses over the 709/717...I'm hoping, hoping, that the 313 and 414 "models" have essentially died. Meaning, I'm hoping the 525 is the bottom AVR and the 727 is merely the 616 replacement.

It could also be that Onkyo is doing a complete rearrangement of their offereings. That would make the most sense.
