I'm planning to "upgrade" my HT (actually, it's not exactly a HT, it's an integrated mini system by SAMSUNG). My choices for upgrade are quite limited because I'm tied to a store (store credit). I've got 2 choices that seem valid to me as far as receivers are concerned:

    Philips FR966 or

    Sony STR-DE475

Those two are in the same price range (about 550$), and have 5 speakers and an active subwoofer included. What do you think about these?

as far as DVD players are concerned, my choices are Thomson DTH-5400 or Pioneer DV-444, although I'm leaning heavily towards the Pioneer.

    Any advice will be appreciated.

If that's what you are locked into, I'd say Sony.

    And Pioneer, for the DVD.

    Best Buy? What about Yamaha?

not Best Buy, although it's a close french equivalent (DARTY not to name it).

They've got the Yamaha VS10B receiver but it lacks a FM tuner and is a bit short as far as inputs are concerned.

They also have the Panasonic SA-HE7 but it lacks DTS decoding capability.
