I'm in the process of making a jukebox PC.. mostly for mp3 playback, but possibly have DVD playback as a secondary function.

It will be remotely connected to a workstation upstairs, but I'd really like to have some sort of way to control playback from the same room (the case is a mini-ATX case that looks like another stereo cmponent, so no monitor/keyboard/mouse is being used).

My friend suggested looking into a serial LCD display for the front of the case. I was curious if anyone had any information about these.. where to buy them, how to hook them up, configure them, etc.. Thanks for any help.

You can get character LCDs, graphic LCDs, and VFDs (Vacuum Fluorescent Displays). A popular vendor is Matrix Orbital, but some find their prices too high. The [H]ard|Forum's LCD FAQ is pretty helpful, and many people who know LCDs visit the Cool Cases section. You may also want to search the net.
