    Hi all,

It appears that disc 2 of my Goodbye Yellow Brick Road SACD will no longer be recognized by my Sony XA-777ES. Disc 1 plays fine in stereo and MCH, but disc 2 fails with a TOC error every time.

IS there anywhere I can turn to possibly get a replacement disc for this? Anyone ever had to do anything similar?

    Thanks.

Your best best is to contact the label. (Universal, I think?)

    Good luck!

PS If worse comes to worst, BMG Music Club sells the whole 3-disc set for $12. Maybe you could get a few bucks for the partial set at a used CD shop.

Does it work on another player - either in your home, a friend's house or store? Also, did you try disconnecting and powering up the unit with the 'defective disc' in it?

Are there any obvious physical flaws on the disc?

If not, and depending on the age you may have a hard time getting Universal or the pressing plant to replace the media.

    Good luck though.

    Cheers,

If you are a member of www.yourmusic.com (a division of BMG)you can purchase the 3 disc set for $11.98.

I have read elsewhere where SA-CD have become unreadable. Probably more along the lines of isolated failures, that occur overtime in most media formats, as opposed to large scale failures.

I do however have spindle cracking SA-CD. The cracks on the discs I have continue to get worse. I am pretty sure these discs will become unplayable someday and screw up my player's mechanism. Oh well, Crest said it is not a problem and has been fixed[IMG]

    Thanks for the advice.

No, the disc does not work in any SACD player I have tried it in. Strangely, the CD layer can be recognized and played in a regular CD player, but not an SACD player... go figure!

I don't think the disc has "rotted" at all, there is no evidence of physical damage or anything that would lead you to believe it was bad. In fact I think it just may have been pressed poorly, and one too many spins finally caused it to give up the ghost.

I'll most likely grab a new copy from yourmusic.com, thanks for the heads up on that!!

Might as well run a Skip Doctor cddvd resurfacer on it, you've nothing to lose, I've had fairly good success with it.

I played my two disc set in the last month, no problemo, XA777ES. I just got the 3 disc set from yourmusic.com but haven't played it yet.

Given that I am on several music boards a day and this is the first I have heard of SACD rot, I think it is a very rare or isolated case.

    Lee,

if you read my 2nd post you would see that I never referred to it as "SACD rot" nor do I think that is the case at all. It looks to me like it was a maufacturing defect with the disc, nothing more.
