Yeah, um, it seems as though my dad has targetted a widescreen flat CRT direct-view (could I fit in any more technical mumbo jumbo[IMG] ) as his ridiculously expensive electronics purchase for this year. So, he asked me to ask the forum for reccomendations in the 34"-38" range.

Several manufacturers make good sets in this category. Sony has a 34" the kd34xbr2 which is a really nice set and has a hd tuner built in to boot for around $3800. Phillips and panasonic also have 34" sets but no tuner for right around $3000. Rca makes a 38" its ok but not flat screen, plus side is it has a hd tuner built in and is only $2500ish. I'd personally go with the sony in that size. I like the way the XBR's look especially with a good signal.

But how does the Sony look with a mediocre signal? Does its DRC have the same ugly fake-digitized look as the 4:3 XBRs? I'm usually a fan of Sony's direct-view sets, but they've got to improve that DRC.
