I'm looking for a 512mb player with an FM tuner for under $130....Possible ?
You might want to wait a few days...Apple is reportedly about to announce something...
Just purchased the Sandisk 512mb for $99 at Best Buy.
I got the Sandisk 512 for Christmas for my wife at BB. $139 ($40 off regular price) plus $20 gift card and $20 MIR for net $99. Overall seems to be pretty easy to use and setup, software is reasonably easy to use with the PC, and they look to have added a USB cable recently reading some of the early reviews. Seemed to be a much better solution for exercise than the CD/FM Walkman alternative due to the size and weight.
Circuit City has it listed for $119 plus $20 rebate (net $99) this week.
Amazon has it for 114, but I I don't think the rebate applies to them.
The SanDisk 512mb is $109.99 w/ no sales tax (assuming that you don't live in Buy.Com's state) and free shipping at Buy.Com.
I purchased its little brother, the SanDisk 256mb (red) player at Buy.Com for $63.99 the week before Christmas. It is currently $68.99.
I had never owned an mp3 player before, but I am extremely impressed with this SanDisk model. It comes with an armband, clear protective case, and USB 2.0 cable. I mostly listen to audio books, but the music that I have played on it has had awesome sound quality! The FM tuner is also first rate, but I hardly ever listen to FM radio.
I've had mine for a day and a half and I'm very happy with it.....I'm even converting stuff I downloaded from iTUNES to MP3.
Here you go... no tuner, though:
Don't like the Ipod shuffle...no screen or ways to manage your music folders internally.
Yeah, the lack of a screen is kind of a killer, especially if you go for the 1GB model.
Just another over-priced piece of crap from Apple. I mean, no screen... Who would possibly want that???
SanDisk is less expensive and comes with a SCREEN!

Yes, Apple products may be a bit pricey, but they are very well made, and in terms of package and performace are a better value than many.
I am certainly not an Apple snob, but to dismiss their products as crap is absurd.
You are entitled to your opinion, as am I. Lets not make this an Apple debate and hijack this thread in the process. So, make your rebuttal and lets be done with it.
It may perform well but it seems to be made for Apple notebooks and only itunes...They most likely did not include the FM tuner so you could purchase it seperatley in the future.
No rebuttal here... I stand by my statement. This was not an attempt get into an Apple-war, either. I just don't see the usefulness of an mp3 player that doesn't have a screen. They are promoting it as allowing you to be surprised by what plays next. Well, guess what? All mp3 players have a shuffle function. This is nothing new. If you want to be surprised at what plays next, don't look at the screen...
Also, for the audio book listener, what good is this? "Listen to your audio books in random chapter sequence so that you can be surprised by what comes next! You can live the film Memento day after day with our new mp3 player."
No thanks, I'll pass! I'm not picking on Apple, per se, but I'm calling a spade a spade. If SanDisk created something like this, I would be just as harsh...
sure sounds like it. while i agree that the absence of a screen may not have been a smart move, the other "pieces of crap" you refer to are far and away the best selling mp3 players on the planet. they must be doing something right.
Not much for some, because it appears the audio book listener who posted this question can't actually read the general info to find out that you don't have to shuffle if you don't want to.
Sorry... I couldn't get over the lack of a screen which is the real deal-killer, here.
Also, sorry to upset the Apple lovers among us. I forgot how sensitive you all are...
Nothing more will be said from my side on this topic.
with a comment like that, nothing more is necessary.
