Boy, I wish I knew! I only know that Season Two (the last) is confirmed. A&E Entertainment is publishing it. Their site makes no mention of a future release date. Maybe an email to customer support...?
Edit: I've just emailed customer support and will post in the TV section if I receive any news. It is probably a more appropriate place for this thread.

This is the software forum, and we are talking about software. I would suspect it will be late 2001 or early 2002. I can't wait to see some of these again. hopefully they'll look better than what's already been released.

I'm Happy with the quality of the 1999 disks so far, they look a great deal better than the old syndicated versions

Update: received an email response from A&E, the folks who are putting these out. Unfortunately, I could not confirm a release date for the second season. The message was non-specific, but seemed to suggest next year.

I have reviews of these at dOc. They all contain a lot of aliasing and edge enhancement. The last set has episodes which are way too dark, not to mention pretty bad color shifts in some of the episodes. These were shot on film, so could look as good as any movie transfer, though I think they are using PAL conversions which are introducing a number of artifacts.

GREAT reviews. This one cracked me up:
It's interesting to see an air leak not cause any depressurization (Space Brain) or to find cobwebs in a spacecraft (Dragon's Domain), but perhaps that's just being nitpicky.

    Thanks Samuel. [IMG]
Space: 1999 is really entertaining, as long as one can suspend one's knowledge of basic scientific principles.
I decided not to pick on them TOO much, otherwise I would also have commented on the attack of shaving cream that was supposed to be snow.

Take a look at "Force of Life". When during the credit
sequence, an Eagle tumbles to the Lunar surface, the
shot is in black and white and reverts to color on the
first frame of the explosion. And the shot of the Moon drifting through space while the episode title appears is
also black and white. These aren't so bad because there's
nothing in the shots to indicate a glaring loss of color,
but look at the very first shot in "The Last Enemy". We see Moonbase Alpha in black and white, including the suddenly
colorless launch pads and lights. Carlton's idea of "color correction" on certain shots: switch the color off.
The second season won't street on DVD in Region 1 until January 29th, or earlier if a certain online company again offers them a month in advance.

Well Januarary is probably better seeing all the discs already scheduled. I thought the 4th set of discs looked fine, I cannot complain coming from VHS copies. I really hope UFO can come out this year thou love to see those again.

The entire first and second season of Space: 1999 are out in Japan as season box sets, but at over $300 per, they're a little steep. Has anyone seen these?
    I found them listed at:

    Hi Spencer!
The website search function does not give any hits for Space 1999. Could you post a direct link? Thanks!

Try the this link for all the space 1999 japan discs:
    http://www.cdjapan.co.jp//search.htm...D&step=20&sub=
If it doesn't work, make sure your search is in DVD. Or you can go into the tv section. They've got some other interesting things yet to come out here, such as a season of Charlies Angels.

Thanks, Spencer. I selected DVD, &c. but I couldn't get it to come up. [IMG]
There is no mention of a publisher, so I'm not sure whether or not A&E has a boxed set in the works. Plus, it is Region 2, which takes it off my list. [IMG]
Boy, I sure would like to purchase these as a box set. Be sure to post anything if you find any more detail. I'll do the same. [IMG]

I would think A&E will do a complete set box (like Python) after the last discs come out, but that probably won't be until next summer, with a full box not available until next fall.

    Hey Jeff -
I enjoyed the review on Zardoz. [IMG] Your attention to the technical aspects were impeccable, as usual; and is the part I enjoy most about your columns.
One thing that I think would be of benefit for newcomers would be a description of its "cult" appeal. Given your considerable input on the project, I hope that you will post a separate section analyzing this aspect on your website! I would particularly enjoy reading an "intimate" view on your "affair" with this film. (i.e., a mini-essay as a separate section.)
    Regardless, great reading.
    Best,

Thanks Samuel. There is actually a bit of background on the website, but you have to "look" for it in order to "see" it. You can't reach the center of the vortex that easily! [IMG]
I will take your suggestions into consideration when doing the next update, sounds like a good idea.
