Any chance for a reissue of The Apostle (Robert Duvall)?

By many accounts, this is Duvall's best work and a picture he labored (behind the camera) to get to the big screen.

I was a little concerned to hear that the DVD rights had been picked up another company (not Universal).

Apparently, that company reissued the film in it's previous state (4:3 Letterboxed).

Should I hold out for a 16x9 transfer or pick up the letterboxed edition (and be happy it's available at all)?

If you remember seeing this post before, you did.

But I thought that adding Duvall's name to the heading might attract more attention.

This is one of the first DVDs I ever bought--and, IMHO, still one of the best.

I believe it is animorphically enhanced already, if I'm not mistaken. Not much they could do to improve on it, regardless.

I rented this awhile back as I needed to watch it for school and seem to remember it being anamorphic..... I could be wrong.

I caved in and bought the Universal release.

I do love the movie and it was only $9.99.

Unfortunately, it's 4:3 letterboxed with all the associated problems (fuzzy lack of detail and all the jitter you can handle).

This is a 1998 transfer, so you really can't expect too much. Bummer.
