Hi, i've got the Bryston Canadian pricelist and was wondering what a typical street price might be......15% off list? Looking at a 9B-SST in a few month.
That's a good sized chunk off, about what you should aim for in your negotiations. It depends though on your dealer, your power of negotiation and the salesperson you're buying from. These variables are not equal across the board.
I'd be interested in this as well. Early last year when the exchange rate was $1.60, I was thinking about making a trip to Canada to get some 7BSTs. Heck, I've always wanted to visit Banff/Lake Louise (don't know if there are any audio dealers in that area, though... and Toronto is a loooong way from here.)
Now the exchange rate is not so attractive... and I don't know what I would face at US customs (it's hard to hide six 7BSSTs, not that I would ever do anything remotely illegal )... and I'm having a hard time convincing the spouse that we really need $20K worth of power amps.
I, too, thought about driving to Canada a couple of years ago to get Bryston amps @ the 1.60 exchange rate (I'm in NJ and a little closer). With the 1.25 rate and increased security/scrutiny at the border, that's off my plate. Plus I just got three used Aragon Palladium II monos for 1k each Hey, seven used Palladiums are $21k worth of amps, but only ~7-8k at the current used prices.....
Bryston products are made in Canada and thus should be subject to NAFTA advantages (ie, should not have any duties going south), but I'd check with the US Customs & Immigration people first (or whowever would handle this).
My canadian Bryston dealer cross the border and ship them, using a broker to save the paperwork (this way his US customers avoid asking for the taxes refund) . He's located almost on the border.
Anyone have prices and dealers in Toronto? I may look into a used amp and I need to know their retail prices. What are the cheaper bargain Bryston amps? Must be 150 watts/channel/8 ohms or higher. 2 Channel is sufficient.
If there is a Bryston dealer in Banff/Lake Louise you'd be unlikely to get a good deal there. That's tourist country, and prices there on everything tend to be grossly inflated. If you're going to be near Banff then your best bet would probably be Calgary, and I know there's at least one Bryston dealer there. There's probably several though.
The people at Loyalty are really difficult to bargain with. Consider yourself very lucky if you manage to get 5% off retail price.
The people at Smart Homes Systems, on the other hand, are excellent to deal with, but they are by appointment only, and they usually don't stock everything. So calling ahead is really important.
I have a Bryston 5bst PRO THX for sale from Saskatoon. Is in perfect condition. Comes with original box and both PRO and ST faceplate. Hi res pics available. Will sacrifice at $1600 CDN. You will not find a 5bst in better condition (still has 12 year warranty) I am visiting Edmonton next week and can bring it along if interested. Calvin
