I was wondering if there are any "big" titles due to be released before Xmas that are yet to be announced?
As my DVD pre-orders are looking a little bare in the lead-up to the festive season.
Has anybody got any cats(or dogs) to let out of the bag? Ron? [IMG]

    You noticed that too?
I feel like the bottom has dropped out. I have 2 in the mail, and six more to get for the rest of the year. I've picked up about a hundred new relases this year, so adding six in 2 months tells me that something is wrong.
I do need to add that our summer vacation just ended a few weeks ago, so maybe something will show up soon. Keep your fingers crossed. - Oh, and Ron, say something, please! [IMG]

Hehe, to each his own. [IMG] I've been feeling that it has been a lackluster year so far, but things are really picking up through the rest of the year, starting this week.
I guess it's why Baskin Robbins has 31 flavors. [IMG]

Are we being sarcastic here? My list of must-haves being released between now and Christmas is over 40 titles, lots of them being 2 or 3-disc sets (Simpsons, Shrek, Fawlty Towers, Springsteen, Holy Grail off the top of my head). That's over 3 titles a week. If this is a slump, I don't want to see the new year.

Transformers: Season 1 was supposed to be out in October. Now I think we'll be lucky to see it in January

Well, let's see. In just the past 2-3 weeks, all of these and more have been announced (this is just off of my own wishlist; things I don't want aren't on this list):

    Tue, 04-Dec-01Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure1989
    Tue, 04-Dec-01 Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey1991
    Tue, 04-Dec-01Mixed Nuts1994
    Tue, 04-Dec-01Princess Diaries, The2001
    Tue, 04-Dec-01Sheena1984
Tue, 04-Dec-01Spacehunter: Adventures in the Forbidden Zone1983
    Tue, 04-Dec-01Twin Peaks: Season 11990
    Tue, 11-Dec-01Dirty Rotten Scoundrels1988
    Tue, 11-Dec-01Elephant Man, The1980
    Tue, 11-Dec-01Jurassic Park III2001
    Tue, 18-Dec-01Murder by Death1976
    Tue, 18-Dec-01Waterdance, The1992

Also don't forget that the Walt Disney Treasures series is due on 12/4, and a new Land Before Time titles to boot (hmmm, maybe that one is worth forgetting).
I'd say that there's a good chance that a few more surprises will be pulled out of hats before Halloween hits. After that, there's no chance of new announcements of titles to hit before the end of 2001.
But, personally, I think that they have put all their cards on the table already. My observations of the past two Holiday Seasons and DVD releases are that, if you release 'em past the week after Thanksgiving, they will stay on the shelves until after New Year's for the most part. I would guess that they will try to get everything that could be really hot into stores by 11/20th, so that on Friday 11/23 (day after Thanksgiving & the start of the biggest 3 days of shopping each and every year), consumers will be able to pick up everything they want. Or else make a note of what they want to ask for as gifts. After that, it just gets lost in the shuffle until around Valentine's Day.

Off the top of my head, I have on order:
    Shrek
    Godfather trilogy
    Simpsons Series 1
    Bill and Ted's Bogus Adventure
    Radio Days
    Rush Hour 2
    The Phantom Menace
    Count of Monte Cristo
    Evolution
    Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy
    Apocalypse Now - Redux
    The Mummy Returns
    Yes Minister
    Zulu
    Police Story (Jackie Chan)
Okay, some of these are R2, but nonetheless, it's a bumper crop for my simple tastes.

Sorry to rant, but we know what is coming out already. All of the lists above don't mean a thing. What we are looking for are the ones that have NOT been announced yet.
That is why I said only 6. Yes, it is my personal preference, but it isn't anywhere close to what I have already picked up this year. I'm running about 30% of my previous purchases.

Glenn, what I guess those of us who produced lists were trying to point out was that there were *a lot* of interesting movies coming out before Christmas (hence why we specified them), and accordingly, the probability of releases of yet more 'interesting movies' was unlikely. I agree that in certain genres the run-up to Christmas offers slim pickings, but the point is that a lack of movies an individual person is interested in does not indicate a lack of releases of (for want of a better phrase) 'high calibre' movies. It's a case of horses for courses, I guess. A few months ago I was wondering if any movies I'd be interested in were ever going to be released, whilst everyone else was eulogising over the great selection of new releases on offer.
