As someone who’s equally passionate about cinematic experiences and audiophile-grade music reproduction, I’ve long admired Anthem’s ability to excel in both realms. So when the MRX 740 AV receiver arrived at my doorstep for review, I was excited to get started. This wasn’t just another piece of gear to test; it was a potential game-changer for my entire home entertainment system. With the promise of immersive surround sound for movie nights and high-resolution audio for my music collection, I eagerly set out to see if the MRX 740 could truly deliver.

In this review, I’ll share my personal experiences, impressions, and insights to help you determine if this high-end receiver is the right choice for your setup.

Thanks for the review Jonathan.

I would very likely get an Anthem preamp, certainly the AVM 70 and quite possibly the AVM 90, if not for the operational and configuration problems you mentioned. I'm not sure what's going on lately, but a lot of brands seem to be having similar issues. Currently, it has any upgrades I would consider in this area limited to Denon/Marantz, who seem to have avoided these problems entirely. As good as their units sound, in my book, it's simply unacceptable to have those kinds of fundamental operational problems. It's a shame, really.
