Well I've been soaking up SOME of the info here and am waiting for all my stuff to arrive. Here's what I have:

    Proscan 35" TV
    Denon AVR-1802
    Gateway AR-230 DVD recorder/player
    PSB alpha-B (front/surround)
    PSB alpha-C (center)
    PSB subzero (subwoofer)
    Sony Playstation 2
    Phillips CD Recorder
And some older stuff: vcrs, tape deck, phono

The room is about 15 x 22 and I'm planning
on doing a ceiling mount for the speakers.
My brother sells PSB so I got a pretty good price
on them and I got the Denon on ebay for $227.
Total price for the new equipment (receiver, dvd
player and speakers) was $1,222. I'm looking
forward to checking out the Denon. Looks like it
can handle nearly all the inputs/outputs I need.
It also has A/B speaker connections as I'm driving
a second set of PSB alphas in a separate music room.
    Future reports to come!

    -Peter

I have the Denon AVR-4802R receiver and Denon DVD-2900 DVD player and have been extraordinarily pleased with the quality of Denon products - I had never owned any but my Crutchfield 'advisor' made the recommendations, they were in my price range and I've been pleased not only with the quality, but also Denon's customer support AND the exceptional manuals that were provided with the components.

Happy viewing! My first surround sound system - put together in 1995, I guess - was a delight to the senses. When I made the leap to HDTV about a year and one-half ago, I was (and continue to be) overwhelmed by the quality. As a real movie lover, it's nice now to just be able to enjoy movies at home in a manner that was impossible 6-7 years ago - I only have begun to become obsessive about wanting to know more about the technology as as prices have COME DOWN. I know that some people spend hundreds of thousands for a home theater experience, but I doubt that they get much more enjoyment from their gear than I get from mine, costing tens of thousands less!

Peter, take it from the staff: We are happy to have you aboard, and we welcome your enthusiasm. Please post often. This is, believe it or not, one of the friendliest places on the Internet.
