I'm having trouble remembering what film included the following scene; it was something I watched recently but not necessarily a new release:

A character is established as being obsessed with good table manners, specifically the use of the correct fork (something drilled into him by his parents, who would make him leave the table if he reached for the wrong one). Later in life, as an adult, he is shown entertaining a date, and when he notices she uses the wrong fork, he glares at her and (I believe) comments on it.

I remember the scene of the father making him go to his room without dinner clearly; the mother scolds him and tells the father to discipline him, we get the idea dad doesn't care but he's beaten down by the wife and gives in.
