Don't know if this has been mentioned, but "Tape/ Disc Business" magazine (geared towards manufacturers of DVD and other media) has the following in their April 2002 issue:
10 Things Movie Buffs Hate About DVD
In the burgeoning online community of film buffs and videophiles who live and breathe technology, DVD fans aren't shy about bemoaning the shortcoming of the format, individual titles, or even the collective output of major studios. TDB asked the Home Theater Forum, an online communityof discriminating home viewers, to name their DVD pet peeves and tabulated the results.
1)Movies Not Presented in their Original Aspect Ratios (OAR)
2)“Snapper”Cases
3)FBI Warnings, ads, and studio promos at the head of the disc.
4)Poor Menu Design
5)Non-anamorphic Transfers
6)Double Dipping
7)Bad Layer Changes
8)Difficult Hubs
9)Locking down the “audio” key
10) Not Enough Catalog Titles

When did they ask?

I wouldn't even have included the snapper case on such a list...

Is it just me or does it seem to be worded as if we don't like the DVD format itself? Those top ten peeves are all about the content and the packaging, not technical problems. The content and the packaging peeves can be solved if the studios put their mind to it. Other than that, we don't hate the format. It's not a perfect format but right now there's no viable alternative to DVD that can do everything that DVD does.

What does "double dipping" mean? Is it a studio releasing a barebones DVD without warning collectors that a better SE version is coming later?
