Hello all. I am new to this forum and home theaters in general.

I have a new Onkyo receiver with 6.1 channels.

I have searched this forum but could not find a solid answer to this question.

In general, when watching a DD or DTS 5.1 movie NOT flagged for DD-EX or DTS-ES is it better in 5.1 or to force the movie into 6.1?

I am sure it depends on the movie and personel taste, but I am curious as to the opinions of the experts on this forum.

    Thanks for your time [IMG]

    I'd say 5.1......
I take it you mean using Neo:6, when you say forcing to 6.1?
Neo:6 is a simulated DSP mode, and 5.1 is the real thing. To me, real is always better than simulated....
    But, that's just me. [IMG]

There really is no "solid" answer. As you say, it depends on the disc and personal taste. However, the topic has been extensively discussed. Here's an existing thread:

    Watching 5.1 DVD's in 6.1

You may have missed this if your search was limited to the Basics forum.

It varies, just as it would by putting any stereo source into pro-logic. Recommend you try with various titles and see. Most will sound better, though, usually.
