If you have some examples others can try it out on their end...
Crouching Tiger, The Dark Crystal, Bridge on TRK, both The Professional & Leon, Close Encounters(theatrical & SE).
Yeah, I had a number of Sony titles showed up today as recently added to my Vudu library that were already in my library in HD. They're now designated as UHD, but only playback in 4K without any HDR. Also, some Warner titles showed up that were designated as being in HD, but only playback in SD. Such as The Thin Man, The Haunting (1963), Merrill's Marauders and Stage Door. Those titles were already in my Vudu library too as SD titles. The same with some Universal titles like Criss Cross.
I had similar results using the Vudu app on iTunes. Also, two 4K/Dolby Vision titles that I had prior in my iTunes library showed up today recently added, but still in 4K/Dolby Vision in my iTunes library. Bram Stoker's Dracula and The Bridge on the River Kwai.
Yup, something is definitely going on.
A quick check of my Vudu shows 3 titles (Big Red One, I Tonya, and Kingsman Golden Circle) show up as recently purchased, but I have owned then for a long time.
Big Red One is the only one of those three that showed up as recently purchased. It was also in my library prior to now. Also, it too, shows it in HD, but only plays back in SD which is the same as it was beforehand.
Today, the same two titles above are the only two recently added titles in my MoviesAnywhere account.
I am seeing something similar. Bridge on the River Kwai, Close Encounter of the Third Kind, Passengers and Starship Troopers are all showing up as new purchases in my Vudu library and are in 4K.
Oops, and as I typed the above, Labyrinth, The Fifth Element, and Underworld also showed up this way. Something is definitely going on with Vudu's library.
Same here - most of these were "upgraded" to 4K 6-8 weeks ago as part of the Sony Ultra shutdown, and now they are being transacted again. Strangely, when looking at the transaction history on MA, it shows these were transacted on Vudu. When I called Vudu to ask what was going on, they were completely clueless about it, saying I needed to contact MA.
Me too. This crap happens a lot on vudu.
It may not be just Vudu. On my Apple TV 4K, under the Movies app it shows that Apollo 13, Bram Stoker's Dracula and Leon: The Professional are new purchases. This just happened sometime this evening.
I think it’s simply because the UHD versions of these titles are only just now reflecting the right resolution for these titles. I need to take a look and see if any Sony UHD titles I have that were forever just HDX are now showing the 4K resolution I only them in.
Called Vudu back, and now they are blaming UltraViolet for this mess, saying that that is where these transactions are coming from. Oh, and the "You own UHD" but plays back in HDX - that is a bug on their service because Vudu doesn't actually have the movie in UHD.
I’ve apparently only had one title affected: Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk. Vudu now shows “UHD owned” even though Vudu doesn’t actually offer UHD on that title. And while MA shows a transaction for today, the title is no longer in my MA library and has disappeared from iTunes and Amazon.
Picked up Psycho (1960) and The Birds for $4.99 ea on iTunes.
Remember, they may show in 4K, but that doesn't necessarily mean they'll play in 4K/HDR.
Was there an announcement that I missed about Easy Rider coming out in 4K? Because it upgraded to 4K and DV on iTunes.
No announcement, but this year is the 50th Anniversary so perhaps Sony will release it later in the year. I've seen other titles upgrade to 4K/DV without any such disc release.
FandangoNow has it in 4K too. I'm guessing the reason Sony decided to go digital only is because they licensed Blu-ray rights to Criterion, and it's up to Criterion to release a 4K disc if they want to.
