I was watching the new edition of Animal House and noticed that while listening to the new 5.1 mix that one word of dialogue is missing. It occurs when Niedermeyer is ordering the ROTC group to "Drop and give me twenty". The actual line is "Now drop and give me twenty!" The 5.1 mix is missing the word "now" almost completely. You can hear the end of the word. It sounds like "w drop and give me twenty!" I switched to the mono mix and it is correct. Sounds like whoever supervised the 5.1 mix screwed up. Panasonic RP82 is the player that I use. Anyone else notice this?

Also, there is a forced ad for Scarface, High School Reunion Collection (Sixteen Candles, Weird Science and Breakfast Club) and Monty Python's Meaning of Life. I could not skip it or jump to the disc menu. I have to fast forward to get past it!

Shall we place Universal Home Video on "Double Secret Probation"?

Awww geez, can Universal NOT screw up a catalog release? The forced ads also sounds like a pain. I bought this release so I could give my Dad the old CE, but if I'm going to have to fast forward through a bunch of crap, I might just give him the DSP instead. I'll give this a whirl in the player tomorrow, but at least the mono track is intact. I've always felt the mono track was fine for this movie.

All that matters is that the mono track is correct.

But in the forced ad I saw something that is NOT good...

All original music is only in Sixteen Candles and Weird Science only. That means Breakfast Club will be missing songs I can see it now NO Simple Minds - Don't You Forgot About Me.

I'm not a hundred percent sure but I think Breakfast Club always had it's original music - that's why they don't advertise that the original music has been put back.

I'm with Bill. As long as the original mix is right and available, this doesn't bother me at all. There may or may not be a valid technical reason for it.

I agree that the original mix is very important.

This has got to be the best screwball comedy out there simply because of John Belushi

My copy from Best Buy ($12.99) didn't have an insert with a chapter index; it only had a coupon. Did anybody get an insert with a chapter index???? (Haven't watched it yet as I had a meeting all night last night)

No inserts? What a lousy way to save a buck. OK, thanks, Rob.

Inserts will probably be gone on all non-major releases from most studios by next year. If you really want them, I'm sure people will make them, or you can do it yourself.

Universal seems to have an issue with keeping all of a film's dialogue intact when they do a 5.1 mix. The 5.1 mixes of Fear & Loating in Las Vegas that they supplied to Criterion also dropped some dialogue. But, as long as they keep supplying the original theatrical audio track, too, it's not too much of a loss for me.

Tony, I hope you are right about the original music but on this forced ad it clearly states only Sixteen Candles and Weird Science with have it.
