According to the Bits, Anchor bay is releasing their Emmanuelle Collection (Emmanuelle, Emmanuelle 2 and Goodbye Emmanuelle) in May. I distinctly recall an old chat with AB where they were going to do the complete series (with Kristel, I assume), and that there was one of the titles that was controversial (Emmanuelle in America?).

I'm no expert, but I believe there are at least 7 films that had Sylvia Kristel in them, most of which I haven't seen yet. Does anyone have any info about the ones that aren't going to be included?

Sylvia Kristel only stared in the above mentioned three films. As of Emmanuelle 4 someone else played the title role (and the director was different too, I presume). Kristel may or may not have had cameos in some of the other movies, but that doesn't exactly make them worth seeing.

Goodbye Emmanuelle was already a waste of time -- better to get a CD with Serge Gainsbourg's title song -- that was pretty much the only redeeming feature.

I think that Emmanuelle in America went with Bill Lustig to Blue Underground when he left Anchor Bay. My recollection is that BU is still intending to release EiA, intact with its notorious horsey scene.

That would explain it, Mark. I highly doubt that EiA will be available in Canada. Emmanuelle 2 is already banned in B.C., why I don't know, considering it has played uncut on TV numerous times, and the first one has more controversial material IMO (cigarette, anyone?). [IMG]

I agree that Goodbye Emmanuelle wasn't that great, but it's one of those completist things. Hopefully these are new anamorphic transfers at least. It would also be good if the fairly recent documentary on the series was included somewhere.

Sylvia Kristel indeed appears in EMMANUELLE IV (1984) (which was shot in 3-D, by the way), but only in the first twenty minutes or so. She undergoes plastic surgery and is played by a younger actres from that point on. The 3-D version was released in Japan several years back in field sequential format. Roger Corman shot a few new 3-D scenes for this as well. A "complete" DVD release of the Kristel features would have to include this film.

She also appeared in 13 hour long episodes of EMMANUELLE: THE SERIES; which aired in the US on Cinemax in the mid 90s; mostly in wrap around footage set on a plane crossing the Ocean.

Don't confuse the "official" Emmauelle series with the knock offs which usually spelled it "Emanuelle". Actually, the knock offs are vastly more entertaining!

Also, there is a lot of confusion about 3-D and Emmanuelle. Several different projects have utilized various types of 3-D. Basically; it boils down to this:

    1. EMMANUELLE IV was shot in polarized (grey glasses) 3-D;
and can be found on video in a good field sequential
    3-D version.

    2. BLONDE EMANUELLE is a re-titled version of 70s Stephen
Gibson sexplotation flick released in the inferior
red/blue anaglyph 3-D format. This one is due on DVD
in May in 3-D along with several other similar films.

    3. EMMANUELLE IN SPACE is a 13 episode TV series which
included a "3-D" sequence in each show. This utilized
    the "Pulfrich Illusion" which isn't real 3-D at all;
sex scenes shot with a moving camera take on an illusion
of depth when seen through a special filter. When these
aired on Cinemax; they didn't even promote this or offer
glasses to viewers; but in Europe they did play up the
"3-D" sequences. These episodes were also edited into
movie format and released on DVD in the US.

Steve - were did you come up with Blonde Emanuelle? (I thought I had a list of all of them!) Unless I missed it, IMDB showed nothing. [IMG]

I have Sylvia Kristel listed in 11 of them, but as said, some could be short appearances, as many are missing on DVD.

I think IMDB has an incomplete listing. Did some quick research (i.e. went to Blue Underground's "Future Releases" page) and found that sometime, somewhere, "Emanuelle in America" is scheduled for DVD release by BU.

SIDE: So confusing, this "Emanuelle" or "Emmanuelle" naming scheme, especially since it changes not only with the knock-offs but between original and US naming conventions. I guess they figure the audience really isn't paying attention to titles.

    Sorry, I couldn't resist my sophmoric urges...mmm...urges...

Sylvia did 4 features, and then the TV series. Many of those have been edited into "movies" which is probably why you are finder her name attached to 11 titles.

BLONDE EMANUELLE in 3-D was one of the first features rated NC-17 by the MPAA. As I said, it was just a retitling of a much older film.

Anyone know of a good web site that details all the myriad releases of all the Em(m)anuelle films? Now that my memory's being jogged, I check out IMDB and other sites and there's different titles, and different numbering schemes, not to mention cuts or lack thereof. When did nudie flicks have to give me...er...us such a headache [IMG] ?

And now I see a LP of the original's ST on eBay. Amazing.

Jessie, I think that the IMDB's listings of her are the worst part of IMDB.

I have compiled a list of both single and double 'M's, and it comes to 77, but that does not include Steve's Blonde version. If it was a retitle I'd like to know of what. (Not a flame by any means, but it does show IMDB has flaws).

This doesn't include all of the 'alternate' titles, either, and some have been released under those names, so finding out what is new or coming up is nearly impossible.

Don't ask me why, but I just decided to see how many of these I could get. The recent series 'in space' is a riot!

Also, 'Nea, Young Emmanuelle', came out two weeks ago. I have 18 DVD's so far.

BLONDE EMANUELLE was originally released as LOLLYPOP GIRLS IN HARD CANDY, or DISCO DOLLS IN HOT SKIN. I'm not sure which. HOT SKIN has been playing at midnight shows recently in a harder version with flat/2-D porn footage spliced in.

The tamer BLONDE EMMANUELLE version will be out on DVD on May 20th; with red/blue 3-D glasses included!

Well heck, if the 3-D glasses are included, then I have to have it! Can't wait! [IMG]

No, it doesn't have anything to do with Emmanuelle. It was simply retitled that in the early 90s for a while. Stephen Gibson's 3-D flicks were often released both soft and hard versions. Most of the hard stuff was spliced in from flat movies!

Unless the rights have changed, MGM owns EMMANUELLE 4, since it was distributed in the U.S. by Cannon films.
