Critically-Lauded Film Starring Academy Award® and Golden Globe® Nominees

Michelle Williams and Ryan Gosling Due on May 10, 2011

BEVERLY HILLS, CA – Anchor Bay Entertainment and The Weinstein Company announced today the Blu-ray™ and DVD release of the critically acclaimed love story, BLUE VALENTINE, heading to retail on May 10, 2011. A vivid portrait of love found and lost, BLUE VALENTINE stars Academy Award® nominee Ryan Gosling (Half Nelson), and Michelle Williams, whose performance garnered her a 2011 Academy Award® nomination for Best Actress in a Leading Role. The film earned its director and co-writer, Derek Cianfrance, the Chicago Film Critics Association Award for Most Promising Filmmaker. Both Gosling and Williams received Golden Globe® nominations for their performances, and the film and its stars were also honored with nominations from the Chicago Film Critics Association, the Gotham Awards, Film Independent’s Spirit Awards, the London Critics Circle Film Awards, and many more. BLUE VALENTINE will be available uncut and uncensored for an SRP of $39.99 for the Blu-ray and $29.98 for the DVD.

Blue Valentine is the best movie of 2010!” says the New York Daily News’ Joe Neumaier. “Director Derek Cianfrance’s intense, beautiful, emotionally raw drama is memorable for a depth of emotion that is naturalistic, heartbreaking, real and rare.” Writes USA Today’s Claudia Puig, “Ryan Gosling and Michelle Williams have the most palpable chemistry of any screen couple this year,” while Rolling Stone’s Peter Travers says “Blue Valentine is not to be missed. Ryan Gosling and Michelle Williams give two of the most explosive and emotionally naked performances you will see anywhere.”

After the film premiered at the 2010 Sundance Film Festival where it was nominated for a Grand Jury Prize, Variety film critic Todd McCarthy wrote, “Gosling and Williams interact beautifully and without a false note, their deep immersion in their roles resulting in nothing but behavioral truths.”

Ryan Gosling (Oscar® Nominee, Half Nelson) and Oscar® Nominee for Best Actress Michelle Williams star in the honest, moving, and uninhibited love story, BLUE VALENTINE. The film blends present moments in time with romantic past memories to tell the story of Dean (Gosling) and Cindy (Williams), a young couple who spend a night away from their daughter in an attempt to save their failing marriage. Director Derek Cianfrance creates a raw, naturalistic portrayal of a relationship, while simultaneously depicting two young people making that first, intoxicating romantic connection through music, dance and silly jokes. As it traces the arc of Dean and Cindy’s relationship, BLUE VALENTINE poses questions that touch us all: How do you sustain love? Is it even possible to do so? What do you when your dreams don’t come true, or your life doesn’t go as planned? What do you do when your partner doesn’t deliver on the promise of his or her potential?

Highlighted by uncompromising scenes of sexual intimacy and emotional intensity, BLUE VALENTINE captivated audiences and critics alike, with the Los Angeles Times pronouncing it “something extraordinary, a valentine that actually says something true about being in love.”

Uncut and uncensored, the BLUE VALENTINE Blu-ray™ and DVD bonus features include an audio commentary with director Derek Cianfrance and co-editor Jim Helton; a “Making of” featurette; Home Movie; and deleted scenes. Note: Bonus Features are subject to change.

Canadians will notice no difference in this "uncut and uncensored' release as we already have the original cut in theatres. ( It was altered to get an R rating in the United States.)

The movie was initially rated NC-17 by the MPAA but The Weinstein Company won an appeal of the rating and got an R without having to make any cuts.

Of course the "uncut and uncensored" tag is to make you think you're getting something new and "forbidden" when in fact you're not. BAMBI is "uncut and uncensored," too.

Funny how the rather tame oral sex scene in this film nearly earned it an NC-17, but the far more graphic oral sex scene in Black Swan (replete with a shot of Mila Kunis literally wiping her chin off) earned an R-rating with no problems...because, apparently, as long as the sex is between two hot lesbians, it's more socially acceptable to see on-screen rug munching.
