Has anyone compared today's digital FM tuners to the analog tuners of the early 80's? I'm only wondering about the reception performance and sound quality. Not too worried about the bells and whistles.

One advantage that I had always heard of analog tuners over digital is this: the freq of a signal can actually drift a little from each station. With a digital tuner, you are stuck with the resolution of the tuner (92.3 to 92.4 for example). With an analog tuner, you can dial each station in exactly (92.3863...).

I can't give model numbers unfortunately, but there are a lot of older analog tuners (McIntosh, Marantz, Nakamichi, etc.) that *most* of todays tuners (analog *or* digital) can't touch for performance.

The Audio Critic is a publication really hyper about the performance of tuners...
