Right now I have my CD player hooked to my receiver using the analog interconnect. Will changing over to a digital interconnect make a difference in sound?

When you have it connected via analog RCA's or XLR's, you're utilizing your CD's own internal DAC's. When you use a digital cable, it becomes a "transport" in that you receiver will be using it's DAC's to convert the sound. If your CD player isn't a very high-end unit, use the digital cable (toslink or coax) for what should be cleaner sound.
