Some guy on ebay is listing many copies of the new gamecube bonus disc. As a special bonus, he is offering a 1 year subscription to Nintendo Power Magazine.

They pay him, he gets name and address and then signs them up for the free disc on the Nintendo web site that comes with the magazine subscription. Pretty ingeneous, as long as the auctions come in above $20.

What's evil about capitalism? A fool and his money are soon parted.

I usually rail (in vain) against questionable moral behaivor justified through capitalism, but this is actually pretty funny. These people really should know better. One simple google search would have set them straight.

I just can't believe folks are paying $40-$50 bucks for a disc they can get free with a $20 magazine subscription/renewal. (well, actually I can believe it)

I sold my copy that I got with my Gamecube back when it first came out to someone and he was extremely happy to buy the compilation. I liked the game (Zelda 1, dont care for the others) and all, but that was too hard to pass up for something I got as a bonus with the Gamecube. I think it was a pretty good business decision.

Opportunities like that dont come along too often.

Although, I do agree. The prices are pretty high (but are starting to drop now) for something you can just get by registering your items, getting a magazing subscription, or buying a Gamecube.

Maybe a lot of people just dont want a hassel and prefer to just buy it.

Look at it this way. They obviously want the games and they know what they are buying, so I dont see how selling it to them is wrong. It's sort of like when people were buying beanie babies and the talking Elmo. No one broke their arm. They knew what they were buying and if they choose to spend their money on that item, thats their business and decision. But, then again thats just me.

I dont see how it is any different than buying a high ticket item from a business. For example, everyone buying DVD recorders right now are getting juiced because they will eventually be only a couple hundred dollars. Same with paying a ridiculous $10,000 for a plasma tv when it first came out when it will eventually cost a few thousand (some already are) Isnt it technically the same thing?

The difference, Ryan, is the passing of time (which brings up or down the price of goods, depending on scarcity or technological advances) - whereas this disc/subscription is RIGHT NOW available to ANYONE for less than many people are paying. There's nothing illegal about this scheme (you're essentially paying the guy to log on and subscribe for you, heh heh) ... but whether people know it or not, there's absolutely no good reason to pay more for this, unless you have no idea you could be paying less.

Research is important... it's why HTF is so great. [IMG]

A different scenario is "immediate scarcity" brought about by those going into business for themselves (driving up prices by buying out collector's items on the release date, for example). But I'm sure there are plenty of these Zelda discs to go around!

I'm glad I got my disc just by registering the cube on nintendo.com. Thank goodness for Nintendos email system getting screwed up. I got a note saying I was getting one shipped, even though I only registered my cube. A few days later they sent a reply stating that their email system was screwy, and that I hadn't qualified, but sent one anyway [IMG].

    Thanks Nintendo [IMG].
