I'm about to order my Tempest from Adire and was also going to get an amplifier. Everybody seems to be using the AVA 250. Is there any reason I shouldn't?
Also, when using LspCAD I put 250 W into the appropriate box (I was going to use the AVA 250 all along) when coming up with my design. I was just playing around and put 125 W in instead. All of the sudden my cone excursion came down where I was a little worried about it before. I play at pretty normal volumes which I'm sure will not require the amp to be turned up to ten all across the board. Then where do you go? You can't go anywhere. But if I were to only have it on 5 would that be the same as using a 125 W amp?

125 watts is the correct number to put in, since the program automatically doubles it to account for the 4-ohm load of Tempest's paralleled voice coils. What you're seeing is the predicted performance of 250 watts into 4-ohms, which is what you want for the AVA250.
