Amp no-clipping circuitry (1 Viewer)

I was just wondering if it is possible or feasible to make a filter of sorts to control the incoming signal to a Subwoofer plate amp so it will not clip. I know some regular amps have them built in and sometimes call them "clip-eliminators".
And just getting a bigger amp won't do the trick because then the driver would just bottom out.

Any negatives to using something like this.

And setting it at just below the RMS power rating on the amp.
