Sorry for missing this thread.
Thanks to our lame search feature I just added to an old thread in the TV Forum. Perhaps because I used lower case on my first search and that was what appeared I just posted in it without realizing that thread was already in the wrong forum
And, YES!
And I have pre-ordered....:)

So I seem to recall hearing something about how the eps were originally aired in wrong order ? Certainly production order and airing order wasn't the same -> epguides.com/AmericanGothic
It appears that dvd has eps in the order which they were aired, however, should I rather watch them according to production numbers ?

Universal didn't put much effort into the correct presentation of Earth 2, slapping some of the episodes on the discs in whichever order they fell from the film vault shelves.

Definitely in case of Universal make sure you are watching the episodes in the correct order if the production order and the airdate order are different as they are in this case.

tvshowsondvd.com provides a review.

They are NOT in the correct order, and there seems to be a problem with the discs (flippers) meaning some freezing up during the episodes, etc. etc.

Wow, Gord's review has let my excitement wane quite a bit. And I can't believe they have the episodes out of (intended) order. Very sloppy.

I posted the toned-down review. I knew I was going to have to rewrite it when I started; I had a bit too much emotion in the first one.

People keep complaining that Universal hasn't relased ______ (insert their favorite show), but my God...if Universal owned one of my favorites then I'd hope to hell they didn't released it anytime soon. Maybe they'll have their act together in a year or two.

This was going to be a sure sale for me. Having read Gord's review.... I'm going to have to think about it, now.

Problem is, I'm not one who likes to shoot myself in the foot, so to speak. This will likely never be re-released in a proper format. I guess if I want it, I'll have to take my chances that the discs will work (I am not one who has had problems in the past with Universal's DVD-18s, but I don't like tham and I know there are enough reported problems to be concerned) - and I'll have to juggle the discs to watch in the correct order.

I've already passed on House because of the treatment it got.

Damn Universal.

So, I printed out the correct order of the shows and I'll keep that in the box.

Just got to start watching this tonight, so good. Not far into the first show Lucas is walking through the jail whistling "The Fishin' Hole" from the Andy Griffith Show. Great stuff.

American Gothic is perverse, scary, funny and very sexy.

yep, I'm experiencing the same problems Gord is having with the DVD-18s on this set (never had any problems with DVD-18s on any other TV on DVD set).

Funny enough i was just about to ask if anyone was experiencing problems...i'm just about to watch 'Meet The Beetles' after watching the prior episodes thus far without problems, so am hoping that these problems aren't widespread, though i do of course sympathise with those having problems as result of seemingly poor quality control at Universal etc.

I watched through the "To Hell and Back" episode, so I've been in 4 of the six sides.
No problems so far.
Did someone take credit for producing this set? Everytime I have to pick up my crib sheet to check where I need to jump to next I think I'd like to take that person off my Holiday card list.

I originally watched American Gothic
during its initial television run 10 years ago.

I became an instant fan and was quite upset
that the series lasted for only one season.

You can bet that I quickly snatched up the
recent DVD release, and have spent the last
week making my way through the set.

First, I wish to thank TVSHOWSONDVD for posting
the correct order in which to watch this set.
I do remember when this show originally aired
on CBS, there was something odd about the order
of the shows. Thanks to the episode list, I
have been able to watch the shows as they were
inted to be viewed.

Watching American Gothic after all these
years I am really amazed at how well written
these shows were. Take a look at Meet the
Beetles
for instance. The dialogue between
Celena Coombs, the coach, Sheriff Buck and the
detective is very tongue-in-cheek. The writers
had a real knack for snappy dialogue.

This is really an outstanding show that deserved
more than a single season. I do vaguely remember
that the series did end on a very high note that
sort of finalized everything (as if the creators
Knew this was the end), so I don't think viewers
are going to be left feeling empty.

On a side note, the picture quality of these
shows could have been better. Lots of video
noise present here. I am experiencing none
of the DVD related problems being reported here.

Quick question to the fans...

As it has been 10 years since I last saw this show...

Was it ever established exactly WHO Sheriff
Buck was? I always thought he was the Devil,
but I am uncertain if that was ever revealed.
I do remember the final episode was very
spiritual and it may have revealed that fact.

Ron, they pretty much cover the answer to your question in the pilot commentary (I don't know if you've listened to it yet).

Gord,

No, I haven't listened to it, and
unfortunately, I really don't have time.

Could you put the explanation that was
given up in spoilers? If you feel better
about it, you could also email me the
explanation.

Really appreciate it! Thanks, Gord!
