grrrrrrr
Just checked the mail, and no luck! I guess I have to do schoolwork today. Does anyone know of an online store with good prices and fast shipping for pre-orders?
What could I have done to be treated with such disrespect?

Amazon's shipping seems very spotty. I receive some titles on release date, others after.
My Godfather shipped last Friday via UPS (their USPS shipping seems more timely). As of last night, it was checked into Phoenix, AZ. Scheduled delivery is listed as Friday (Oct. 12). Sigh....

I canceled my order at Amazon for The Godfather Trilogy. I placed the order back in July and when I checked the status last week, I found that it was scheduled to ship until the 12th!
I love Amazon's customer service, but I don't order from them any longer simply because they ship their items so late. It's not like I must have my DVDs on the day it streets, but I do like to have them by the weekend so I can screen them.
Out of all the orders pre-street date, Amazon has never had the DVD out to me prior to street date. It's usually a week after it's been released.

As for the bad rap about the characters--hey, I've seen space operas that put their emphasis on human personalities and relationships. They're called "Star Trek" movies. Give me transparent underwater cities and vast hollow senatorial spheres any day. --Roger Ebert on The Phantom Menace

I just got back from the mall, and I stopped into Sam Goody. They're selling it for the most they can possibly get away with ($100), so I guess waiting an extra few days isn't the worst thing in the world.

Like most everyone else I use DVD Empire but Amazon had the best price for me since I had a $10 GC. But this is the last time I'll use Amazon after they forgot to apply my GC and then they didn't ship out my order until Tuesday which is when I'm use to receving my order when I use DVD Empire.

This is the policy that was my final stary with amazon. Only if I have a coupon and it is not a pre-order, I may use them on ocassion.
It is now DVDEmpire for me. I have only had one order not arrive by the street date. Having an order by street date saves me a lot of stress and anxiety. Shipping the Friday before the latest street date in the order should be to policy of all online retailers.
Just curious, which e-tailers usually ship so titles arrive on street date?

I've never understood this preoccupation with instant gratification.
What's the big deal if it arrives 2 or even 3 days after the release date? (Especially if it was the best price available when you pre-ordered.) Do you REALLY sit down and watch it the very day it arrives on your doorstep? And what harm is done if you can't view it until Thurday night instead of Tuesday night?
I have lots of DVDs I've bought (usually at Costco, now that the online bargains are almost nonexistent - in my first 200+ DVD purchases, exactly ONE came from a B&M store) as soon as they released that I STILL haven't viewed, so whether I get them on a Tuesday or later that week is almost immaterial. But I must be an exception, from this thread.

You're not alone, Allen. I order almost all my discs online. Although the titles almost always arrive by street date, I rarely sit down and watch them that evening. As for "The Godfather" set, while mine actually arrived last Friday, I still have not had time to watch it yet (I was out of town last weekend, and 3 hour films are tough to fit in during the work week).

I guess we could then ask what would be the harm if they got it to you a month after street date then. Granted, there are much bigger concerns in our lives than when we get our DVDs. However, all things being equal, the sooner you receive something, the better. It is not unreasonable to request that a title you pre-order be shipped to arrive on street date, since that is when the B&M buyers will have access to it.
The point is not whether a title arriving on street date is important to one person and not another. The point is that it is important to some people, and that e-tailers who ship to arrive on street date will get more of their business.

I finally got the set today, but DON'T EVEN GET ME STRATED ON THE PACKAGING :)! Oh well, it's a small price to pay for finally having these gems on DVD. Looks like I won't be doing any homework this weekend.

I got mine from Amazon on Wednesday, which I think is pretty good. I popped a bit in to see it, but won't watch it until this weekend. My only gripe- I thought it was UPS at first- was the squished box...

OK, I got it today, not too bad I suppose ;O But if you consider the coupons that I used their really is'nt any advantage to preordering anymore, at least from Amazon, IMHO

I remember getting discs before the street date with Amazon, but my Godfather set also has not arrived yet. It was shipped on Monday, so I fully expect it to be in my hands by tomorrow or Saturday. In truth, I am slightly annoyed, however, Amazon really hasn't given me any problems besides this; along with the $60 I paid, I am content with them.

Unless I'm mistaken, they move mail on holidays, but they just don't deliver (and the post offices aren't open). Anyways, I can't believe how many people here care so much about having releases arrive on the release date. Amazon can't do that because it breaks their agreement with the distributors, and if that happens, the distributors will be more than happy to withhold their product from amazon (until after the release date). This is what they told me when I worked at Tower records, anyways. Smaller retailers will take such risks because the distributors are less likely to notice.
While Amazon has its faults, shipping on the release date (or the day before), which Amazon does, is such a minor concern in the scheme of things that I'm not willing to consider a fault. Customer service, prices, product availability, and the frequency of errors are so much more important.
In any case, the main reason I order through Amazon is reliability. They don't frequently make errors, and of all the companies that sell dvds on the web, they're the ones most likely to stick around. As for the other companies, if they go out of business, there will probably be a period of bad service towards the end that will leave a bad taste in the mouth. Oh, and bn sucks.
In any case, it seems quite ridiculous to boycott Amazon because they don't ship they're product until the release date. Some of you even make it sound like it's their moral obligation to make sure you get your product on the release date or before (with a day of leeway perhaps). It's not, and nor is it bad business. It's a sensible business practice, and while it leaves them minus a few objectors, it allows them to maintain a good relationship with their distributors, and anyways they make almost no money off of preorders anyways (30% off is probably 15% above cost, which doesn't even come close to the expense of handling the order).

My Godfather set also shipped on Tuesday from Amazon, but getting this a few days later is no problem for me.
I will say this about Amazon, they have excellent customer service when you get to speak to a order specialist. Which is more than I can say about DVDEmpire.
