Not a rumor. From what I read earlier today, a new slimmer echo with multiple tweeters for better audio. They want to go up against the HomePod. Release this fall is speculated.

really a totally different product echoes are available at so many different price points, I don't want to put multiple homepods at $350 a whack in multiple rooms, but the dot is cheap enough to do this and add on to existing systems and speakers

Fair enough. I don't know anything about the Echo product line.

I think the Home Pod will sell well enough and there will be people who buy a few. What I hope will happen is that Siri is improved as Echo does have Siri at a disadvantage.

One of the Echo's greatest advantages is its HUGE ecosystem of connected devices and its app (skills) support. That's what Apple really has to seriously compete with if they want to beat Amazon.

    Doug,

    Absolutely correct.

It's difficult for any competitor to enter the smart assistant field right now. I believe "Bixby" was going to have its own standalone speaker, but the manufacturer decided not to go in that direction knowing how much Amazon dominates the field.

Amazon, I believe, has about 70% or more penetration of the smart speaker assistant market.

Now, where Apple is going to succeed is with the quality of their speaker. What Apple is putting out is more for music purists than those wanting a smart assistant.

Could Amazon give Apple a run for its money? You bet. All they need to do is put out a speaker that is just as good as Apple's and sell it at a lower price point. That's an easy thing to do as Apple is always overpriced.

The Alexa ecosystem is incredible right now. I don't see Apple catching up to it anytime soon.

I agree Ron, and HomeKit seems to be pretty much dead in the water. Apple, as far as I can tell, has never really managed to push it into popularity. The HomePod isn't going to change that in the short term.

Anybody see and check out the recent Amazon product announcements? Several new Echo products and a new Fire TV. The Echo Spot looks interesting.
