As far as I can tell from examinig the tracking data on my previous recent amazon orders, it appears amazon does a lot of their own delivery between their warehouses. It appears every time a package passes through an intermediate amazon warehouse, it gets scanned before it gets sent back out to the next amazon warehouse.

Usually for the "last mile" delivery from the closest amazon warehouse, they use another delivery service. This is why I rarely ever see the tracking data on the delivery service's tracking webpage (such as ups, fedex, postal service, etc ...), until the day of the delivery.

FWIW - I can't recall the last time I received an Amazon shipment via UPS. Mine are almost all done by the USPS - who does a great job in this part of the world. I cringe when I see UPS Mail Innovations is involved in any shipment as it *always* adds 2-4 days to delivery time. The only time I've seen an Amazon delivery van is during heavy shipping times (Christmas mostly).

I just had a really pleasant experience with Amazon.com. I am Canadian and had two Blu rays locked in my US P.O. box when the border was closed in March. I had to beg a bit but A.com is sending a duplicate of the 3D "3D Rarities 2" to my home address in Canada, and not charging me anything extra but postage.

Amazon.uk was a different matter. The first person I talked to basically repeated company policy over and over like a robot. The next night I talked to someone else. Suffice it to say they are sending me another copy of the 3D "Rise of Skywalker" to my home address for free! They wanted me to send the copy in the mailbox back when the border opens (probably in 6 months) at first, but when I pointed out what A.com had done, they agreed to do the same "just this once".

(On a tangent).

Heh.

I remember hearing stories from my childhood, where this had to be done for any reliable mail/package delivery in west berlin during the cold war. For whatever reasons, mail was opened and/or stuff stolen between the west german border and westberlin. The only way to make sure something wasn't opened/stolen, was to take a two-day trip to west germany and pick it up at a relative/friend's place. (They typically had stuff sent to a relative's address in west germany).

Since the cold war ended, I hear a similar thing is done for mail/packages sent to russia and other places in eastern europe. Basically through the grapevine, one finds someone in their social circle who is travelling/passing to a particular town in russia (or eastern europe) and brings the letter/package with them and deliver it in person in russia (or eastern europe). That's the only way something won't be opened/stolen in its journey through eastern europe.

Please help me make sense of this:

I ordered two products from Amazon on the 2nd of this month from different sellers. Amazon never showed either item as having shipped until yesterday yet one of them arrived on my doorstep today with no sign of having been expedited. This one shows "fulfilled by Amazon" on it's product page. In the interim they sent me yet another offer for a 30 day Prime trial which I declined. I have no need for Prime as there is an Amazon warehouse not 3 miles from my house and I'm usually in no hurry to receive my items anyway.

I have yet to receive the 2nd item but today I received a notification of a shipping delay which I was asked to approve. The notification doesn't say when I can expect to receive my item, it only asks me to approve the delay by August 10th. This intrigued me so I checked the items product page. It's still being listed for sale and no delay is mentioned. It actually says "same-day shipping" which is also what it said when my order was placed. What HAS changed is the price which has now increased from $89.99 to a whopping $119.00.

Is Amazon trying to get out of selling me something at the agreed upon price by encouraging me to cancel with a phony shipping delay? I've used them for many years and have never seen anything like this.

Since you bought from a third party seller, I’d suspect the seller and not Amazon. If you really want the item, agree to the delay and screen print the page showing the higher price and the fact that it’s available now. You might want to (shudder) discuss this with an amazon csr.

I bought a couple items recently that were sold by Amazon and "in stock" on the product page, and it still took more than 3 weeks for them to arrive. Not sure what's up with them.

Just checked again and now it simply says "Order Received - Preparing for Shipping" as if they never sent the delay and approval request, which i hadn't responded to. What IS up with them? I too wonder.

Yep, my order was "Preparing for Shipping" for over 3 weeks, while it remained "in stock" and "ready for shipping" on the product page.

I ordered on May 31, and it did not arrive until June 25.

I've just had the strangest Amazon episode. All prices rounded.

10 days ago I ordered an Exterra TR150 treadmill from Amazon for $350. Another seller on Amazon wanted $650. When I checked a day later there was another seller wanting only $180 for it - but red flags for bogus with only one previous purchaser. Last Sunday I checked to see if bogus seller had been dumped - they had - but there was now an "open box" unit available from Amazon Warehouse for only $225. So I bought the open box unit and cancelled my original order.

The treadmill showed up this morning. The outer cardboard box was torn up somewhat but the treadmill was still in the factory packing of styrofoam blocks and plastic sheeting. It had obviously never been delivered to an end user before. I assembled it and it works.

Amazon no longer offers the Exterra treadmill from Amazon directly, only from a couple of Amazon partners for $650.

Congratulations. That seems fortuitous but not necessarily strange. Am I missing something?

So I took your advice and approved the shipping delay. I did this Thursday evening. At that time Amazon sent me a notification acknowledging I had approved the delay and confirming they still had no estimate as to when the item would be shipping. This morning (Saturday) I received a notification that the missing item [see post #665] has now magically become available and shipped. I didn't want to believe it but It really does sound like Amazon was trying to scare me into cancelling and then reordering at the higher price.

Thanks @Johnny Angell . You saved me $30.00!

I left off the strange part.

It was delivered at my doorstep at 5:37 AM. I know that from a "Delivered" email from Amazon with a photo of my front door.

Who the heck expects a delivery at 5:37 AM?

The strangest "delivery time" I ever had, was almost 10pm at night. (The local delivery services usually are not in service after supper).

At the time, my package was "out for delivery" according to the delivery service's tracking web site. The package didn't arrive during the day when the sun was up, where I was assuming it would arrive the next day.

Before I went to sleep that evening, I decided to check the delivery service's web site and noticed tracking page status was changed to "delivered" with an explict timestamp of slightly before 10pm at night. Lo and behold, my package was at the front door.

I have been asked to approve a shipping delay a few times from Amazon. Sometimes the item then ships pretty quickly, other times it has been another week or two. So, I doubt it was anything shady going on.

Perhaps not but in this case the price of the item increased by $30.00 immediately after I received the delay notification while displaying as in stock on the product page the whole time. Had I cancelled and eventually reordered I would have been stuck with the higher price. Still, just a hunch.

Amazon Chat Agents continue to drive me up the wall. I contacted Amazon after receiving a phishing call and this was their response:

July 20, 2020 12:20:38 PM Ruchika has accepted the chat.

July 20, 2020 12:20:54 PM Ruchika (CSA) : Hello Todd Erwin, I'm Ruchika.

July 20, 2020 12:21:06 PM Todd Erwin : I just received an automated phishing call claiming to be from Amazon regarding a recent order in the amount of $77.00.

July 20, 2020 12:21:09 PM Ruchika (CSA) : I will be assisting you today.

July 20, 2020 12:21:32 PM Todd Erwin : The call came from (X)

July 20, 2020 12:21:43 PM Ruchika (CSA) : OK.

July 20, 2020 12:22:44 PM Todd Erwin : It told me to do nothing if the purchase was valid, but to call Amazon at an (855) number if it wasn't. I hung up before I could get the full phone number.

July 20, 2020 12:22:54 PM Ruchika (CSA) : Have you place this order?

July 20, 2020 12:23:11 PM Todd Erwin : do you know what a phishing call is?

July 20, 2020 12:23:55 PM Ruchika (CSA) : Yes. It's a spam call like a spam email. They want you to call back get the details from you.

July 20, 2020 12:24:52 PM Ruchika (CSA) : I don't see any order for $77.00.on your account. I am reporting the matter to a team for investigation. Please don't call or entertain any email or call.

July 20, 2020 12:25:03 PM Todd Erwin : no kidding

July 20, 2020 12:25:30 PM Ruchika (CSA) : May I know the order number?

July 20, 2020 12:25:35 PM Ruchika (CSA) : I will check it for you.

July 20, 2020 12:25:41 PM Todd Erwin : no order number was given

July 20, 2020 12:26:00 PM Todd Erwin : and I have not placed an order for $77.00

July 20, 2020 12:27:18 PM Ruchika (CSA) : OK. In that case they don't have a access to your account details. This is modus operandi to get hold of customers.

July 20, 2020 12:28:23 PM Todd Erwin : please send me a transcript of this chat

July 20, 2020 12:28:39 PM Ruchika (CSA) : They have a very limited info like email or a phone number. Once you can them back they will ask more info. This call wasn't from Amazon. I am placing your account with Account specialist team.

July 20, 2020 12:28:54 PM Ruchika (CSA) : You will get the reply in 24-48 hours.

July 20, 2020 12:29:08 PM Ruchika (CSA) : Is that okay?

July 20, 2020 12:29:34 PM Todd Erwin : no

July 20, 2020 12:29:51 PM Ruchika (CSA) : OK.

July 20, 2020 12:30:02 PM Todd Erwin : I do not want my account placed on hold

July 20, 2020 12:30:45 PM Todd Erwin : I have items on order that have not shipped yet that I need desperately

July 20, 2020 12:31:03 PM Ruchika (CSA) : Okay

July 20, 2020 12:31:04 PM Todd Erwin : and a few more that I will be ordering today

July 20, 2020 12:31:23 PM Todd Erwin : DO NOT PLACE MY ACCOUNT ON HOLD!!!!!!!!!

July 20, 2020 12:31:43 PM Ruchika (CSA) : No. Your account won't be placed on hold.

July 20, 2020 12:32:45 PM Ruchika (CSA) : In that case please avoid these calls and email. I have shared this info for your benefit. We don't call customers and ask for any info.

July 20, 2020 12:32:50 PM Ruchika (CSA) : Is there anything else I can assist you with today?

July 20, 2020 12:34:00 PM This chat was parked
