I heard that this horror film (starring Jack Palance, Donald Pleasence, and Martin Landau) is to be released on DVD in 2005, but I'm not aware of an official date. Is there one? How many of you have seen this film? Is it any good? It sure sounds like it would be. I also heard (can't remember where) that the director, Jack Sholder, would be recording a commentary track for the disc. Seems like Image Entertainment was to be releasing this. Any info?

There is no official date as of right now, but it is indeed scheduled for 05, and will have commentary. As for the film itself, its one of the more interesting 80s slashers. The cast is great, there are some effective sequences, and the film is pretty fun as a whole. Valentine also stole the nosebleed idea from this one if you've seen it, hehe.

Good to hear it's still on the way. There are clips of Alone in the Dark shown in Terror in the Aisles (1984). In one of the clips, Martin Landau is driving a van and chasing a mailman on a bicycle. Landau keeps shouting about wanting the mailman's hat. Landau runs the mailman off of the road, to which the mailman replies, "What are you, some kind of asshole?!" :D

Yeah that's a funky scene. There's also a rather intense sequence of "butcher knife from under the bed" that I remember quite strongly. ;)

"Do you mind if I smoke?"

"Well no, I mean, if you really feel you need to."

"No, I don't need to. I WANT to."--- Donald Pleasence

Now that a different Alone in the Dark has apparently flopped at the box office, I'm wondering when we can expect the 1982 low budget horror film of the same name to be released on DVD. I still haven't heard anything more regarding this title. Image is probably going to save it for the Fall to tie in with Halloween. Maybe I should e-mail Image.

A friend e-mailed image recently regarding this title, and this was the response he was given...

"Unfortunately there is still no word on whether or not this title will be released on DVD through Image Entertainment. However, please rest assured that our acquisitions department is still looking into the possibility of releasing this title on DVD."

So, it looks like Image may have jumped the gun on the initial announcement. My guess is that the rights to the film reverted back to New Line over the years.

DTS? For Alone In The Dark? I mean...well...whatever, I'm sure hard core fans will be delighted but personally I would rather have the extra bits go towards the video, YMMV.
