I saw this on Broadway, at first just because George Takei was in it. However, I soon found myself swept up in the story being told, and found it to be a very moving story.
In my view, the weakest parts were the songs - they were by no means bad, but perhaps too many of them sounded too generic. It's a powerful story, and I wonder if it might have played better as a straight play instead of as a musical.
I'm not sure if this particular performance was filmed on Broadway, or recorded elsewhere at another time. The performance that I did see on Broadway was being professionally recorded, so I assume that this is from the actual night I went to, but I have no way to confirm that.
